Chris Paul Next Team Odds: Who Gives Him the Best Shot at the ‘Chip? (Editors Update) Paul Has Been Traded to the GS Warriors

Future Hall of Famer Has Plenty of Options

Chris Paul’s time in Phoenix is up. The 12-time All-Star was traded to Washington where he is expected to be bought out. A slew of teams could use the “Point God’s” services from contenders like the Los Angeles teams, favored by the Chris Paul next team odds, to a rebuilding franchise like San Antonio. Where does he sign?

A Hollywood Ending For Paul?

At +200 and +275, the Lakers and Clippers are the favorites to sign Paul, respectively. Both franchises could use a point guard like him. Both D’Angelo Russell and Dennis Schroeder are unrestricted free agents for the Lakers. Given how much of a non-factor they were in the postseason, the Lakers need to upgrade the position.

And over to the Clippers side, this franchise has needed a playmaker since it acquired Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. The two stars are scorers but will need a facilitator to improve the team’s efficiency. Paul could reunite with the Clippers and finish what he started in six seasons with the team.

As far as fit goes, the Clippers are the better choice per the Chris Paul next team odds. The Lakers may have more “allure” as far as the brand goes, but Paul’s game and leadership style may clash with LeBron James. The two are friends. But friends being on the same NBA team does not always pan out (just ask Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn).

Should Paul join the Clippers, the team’s NBA Championship odds could shorten and get bumped up. The team will still need to manage the three aging and injury-prone stars on the NBA schedule. But if they are healthy heading to the playoffs, the Clippers may just go all the way.

Eastern Promises: Which Contender is the Best?

At least three contenders in the East could be Chris Paul’s next landing spot. Philadelphia leads at +400 via the Chris Paul next team odds. Boston is next at +500 and Miami is at +750. This may depend on what the 76ers plan to do with James Harden.

The former MVP has a player option, which he is reportedly declining to sign a new deal. The 76ers could re-sign Harden then sign Paul to the veteran minimum. The two already have experience playing together in Houston where they came within one game of upsetting the Golden State Warriors.

Boston’s odds also shortened thanks to dealing Marcus Smart, its top guard. The Celtics now have an opening at point guard with Malcolm Brogdon also sidelined. Paul will fill the leadership void Smart leaves while also making it easier for Jayson Tatum and Kristaps Porzingis to score.

And finally, Miami also seems like a great destination for Paul. The Heat fell short in the NBA Finals due to their lack of scoring. If the team had an elite distributor like Paul, it may have put up a better fight against Denver. That’s where Paul fits in as the Heat could go from a pedestrian offense to filling up NBA scores on a frequent basis.

Could Paul Mentor a Young Rebuilding Team?

The belief is that Paul will only sign with a title contender. He is 38 and does not have many years left to play. But flipping this script and going to a rebuilding franchise is not the craziest idea. That’s why teams like San Antonio (+600) and Houston (+1000) are listed on the odds.

Paul could team up with Victor Wembanyama in San Antonio and instantly make the team a playoff contender. He did it for a young Oklahoma City team in 2019-20, which was part of his renaissance. Houston could also use a “grown-up” in its locker room. Paired with new head coach Ime Udoka, Paul will set the young Rockets straight and make them formidable.

Of course, this could just be a pit stop for Paul like it was in OKC. If he can still prove he’s “that guy”, his value will increase and more contenders could come calling.
