Nikola Vucevic Next Team Odds: Will He Leave the Windy City?

Digesting the Nikola Vucevic Next Team Odds Market

New Beginnings for Vucevic?

After three seasons with the Bulls is it officially time for Nikola Vucevic to find a new home in the NBA? Let’s take a look at the Nikola Vucevic Next Team Odds markets should he leave Chicago and see if there’s any value out there for bettors.

The Boston Celtics were long-time admirers of Vucevic during his time in Orlando and they’ve been listed as market favorites if he is to leave Chicago.

The Celtics are currently listed at +400 to land the Serbian big man, but it’s not a price that offers much value when looking at how their roster is currently constructed. Robert Williams III and Al Horford figure to remain the teams preference and it seems inconceivable that either of those players are moved to make way for Vucevic.

Even if the plan in Boston is to run a two-big lineup it’s hard to see how or why Boston would create cap space to bring in another Center that would expect big minutes and high usage. While NBA player stats show he is coming off one of his most efficient seasons scoring the basketball, his defensive downside is a big asterisk for a true contender to take on board.

The Toronto Raptors are next at +500 and that’s a fit that would make much more sense and represent better value in this market.

Toronto parted ways with head coach Nick Nurse and could be looking to re-tool their roster in a way that better utilizes the strengths of Scottie Barnes moving forward. Jakob Poeltl was brought in at the deadline but could be on the way out once again as he looks to test free agency.

If that were the case, they’d be left without a legitimate Center once more, and bringing in a former All-Star who can stretch the floor is seemingly the perfect on-court fit for the team. New head coach Darko Rajakovic has a reputation for developing players, but having a veteran presence to assist with the on-court nurturing could be a big plus in the eyes of the front office and coaching staff.

Eliminating the Noise

The Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns are both priced at +600 to land Vucevic if he leaves Chicago, but neither is worth entertaining as a realistic landing spot.

The Warriors style under Steve Kerr won’t change regardless of how their roster shakes up with Draymond Green’s impending decision and Vucevic simply doesn’t fit their motion offense. The Suns are still tied to Deandre Ayton and even if they move him it’s highly unlikely to spend big on a Center given their salary cap situation.

The LA Clippers are another team we can safely rule out at +700. They too have salary cap restraints and unless they move a lot of fringe pieces they can’t even entertain the idea themselves.

The Dallas Mavericks (+1000) and New Orleans Pelicans (+900) are two more teams on the list that don’t represent any real value given their roster makeup. The Mavs will spend their cap space trying to fill the wing positions and are seemingly content to sit on their current big-man rotations, while the Pelicans wouldn’t waste their time while they still have Jonas Valanciunas on their roster.

Nikola Vucevic Next Team Odds Best Bets

The market does explicitly state who his next team will be if not the Bulls, which is important given the likelihood that he does in fact re-sign in Chicago.

That said, in the current market the Toronto Raptors at +500 seem the best value from an on-court fit. The NBA team stats show how much better the Raptors were as a team having a traditional big man play the five-spot and if Poeltl is looking elsewhere this seems the perfect match for both parties.

The only other team of any real value is the Charlotte Hornets at +800. The temptation to pair LaMelo Ball with a stretch-five to run pick-and-roll action could be enough for the front office to consider the idea, but given their commitment towards the young duo of Nick Richards and Mark Williams it would be surprising to have them sign a player that would logjam them at that position.
