CFB: Oregon State vs Washington State Odds

Both Teams Failed to Cover Massive Spreads Last Week in Straight-Up Wins

The 14th-ranked Oregon State Beavers (3-0) travel to Pullman, Washington to take on the 21st-ranked Washington State Huskies. The Beavers failed to cover a 24.5-point spread against San Diego State in a 26-9 win last week, while the Cougars matched their spread loss with a 64-21 straight-up win against the Northern Colorado Bears as a 47-point favorite. OSU opened as a 2.5-point road favorite but was bet up to -3 with 68% of the money on the Beavers. The total went from 56 to 56.5 with 67% of the money coming in on the over. We continue our Oregon State vs Washington State odds preview with a breakdown of both schools from a betting perspective.

Beavers Will Have to Break Martin Stadium Hex

Looking back at the previous NCAA Football scores, we were shocked to learn that the Oregon State Beavers were winless in Pullman in their last four trips, while losing 7 of their last 8 overall meetings. Last season was the first time in seven seasons that the Beavers beat the Cougars (24-10).

Despite the straight-up losses, Oregon State is 9-9 ATS against Washington since 2005, and 4-3 ATS on the road. This is one of the reasons why bookmakers are not afraid to make a team with a long road losing head-to-head streak a road favorite; different year with different players.

State is 11th in the nation in total defense (257 yards allowed per game) led by their 7th-ranked rushing defense (57.7 yards per game). Last week was the first time in nine games that the Beavers have failed to cover dating back to last season. There are a few major injuries that bettors need to be aware of.

The Beavers inside linebacker Makiya Tongue is out for the season after suffering a leg injury against SDSU, but fourth-year-junior John Miller and Utah transfer Mason Tufaga could be back on the field this week. We continue our Oregon State vs Washington State odds preview with a look at the Cougars.

This Comes Down To Ward vs Uiagalelei

Through three games of the College Football schedule, both Washington State quarterback Cam Ward and Beavers signal caller D.J. Uiagalelei have come as advertised. Ward is completing 72% of his passes for 990 yards, nine touchdowns, and no interceptions. Uiagalelei is right there with 630 yards through the air to go with six touchdowns and 2 picks.

Washington State will win and cover if they can keep Ward upright after allowing the Beavers to pile up six sacks in last year’s loss. The offensive line has been better this season, but Oregon State will be their first true test. Uiagalelei has been more than adequate this season, but his performance against San Diego State allowed the nations to both sides of the former Clemson Tigers.

There were times when he showed off pinpoint accuracy and other throws that made one wonder who his targets were. The senior finished 14-30 after completing 74% of his passes against San Jose State and Cal-Davis. We conclude our Oregon State vs Washington State odds preview with our official selection.

The Total Is The Most Attractive Option

It’s hard to close your eyes and not imagine both of these teams with a red carpet up and down the field. The Cougars are averaging just under 49 points per game (6th in the nation) while the Beavers are right behind them with 41 per game (16th in the nation). If you’ve been reading our columns on the regular over the past year, you know there is one common rule that we wager by and that is, that two positives do make a negative.

We expect this number to go up some before kick-off the under is the side. The oddsmakers are clearly inviting these two high-powered offenses to easily clear this seemingly measly total, but this is a trap with both teams knowing that the team with the better defense will prevail.

Take the under as our official late NCAA Football pick. That does it for our Oregon State vs Washington State odds preview, we wish you all the best with your wagers this week.
