Colorado vs Texas Christian Odds: Horned Frogs Look to Spoil ‘Coach Prime’s’ Buffaloes Debut

TCU Favored Nearly Three Touchdowns Over Buffaloes

Throwing shade on Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes has quickly become a favorite pastime of sports pundits everywhere. But it fits in with the “us vs. the world” mentality “Coach Prime” has been preaching to his players. He’ll certainly bring the point spread up to his players and hope they take it as a slap in the face. The Colorado vs Texas Christian odds have TCU favored by 19.5 points with a total of 64.5.

New Look for Colorado Buffaloes

To his credit, Coach Sanders told the Colorado players at his first team meeting most of them weren’t good enough to play big-time football. Sure it’s a little bit harsh, but Sanders is trying to win games, not win friends. All anybody has to do is look at Colorado’s 1-11 record last season to realize he’s right. So, out went a mass exodus of players, and in came a few more, as the Buffaloes will rely heavily on transfers this season, beginning with quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

He just happens to be the coach’s son. But he would still be at Jackson State if his dad didn’t think he wasn’t good enough. In two seasons at Jackson State, he threw for 40 touchdowns and now has a better collection of receivers to throw to. He’ll certainly be facing better defenses, but should be up to the challenge.

USF receivers Jimmy Horn and Xavier Weaver have moved to Colorado and Travis Hunter followed the Sanders’ from Jackson State. A two-way player, Hunter will also play cornerback. Houston transfer Alton McCaskill should see plenty of time at running back, as should Kentucky transfer Kavosiey Smoke. Freshman Dylan Edwards was widely recruited.

Former Kent State head coach Sean Lewis will run the offense and they’ll play at a fast pace. He helped bring a couple of Kent’s better offensive linemen with him, while Tyler Brown came over from Jackson State. A few holdovers on the line, Gerad Christian-Lichtenhan, and Van Wells, should start.

There’s only one way the defense can go and that’s up. The Buffaloes allowed 44.5 points per game last year and only have a few players still around. Defensive coordinator Charles Kelly arrived from Alabama and brought linebacker Demouy Kennedy with him. Other transfers come from the likes of Florida State, Clemson, and Washington, along with several from Jackson State, including another Sanders, Shilo.

Chandler Morris Back at QB for TCU

Morris was hurt against Colorado last season and Max Duggan ran with the job. Now Morris is back and he has a solid offensive line blocking for him. The Horned Frogs have the No. 17 NCAA football ranking and lost a few of their talented receivers, but Colorado isn’t the only team that can attract solid transfers. TCU added some strong receivers through the transfer portal and also running back Trey Sanders, who comes from Alabama.

The offensive line returns Brandon Coleman and Andrew Coker and added Willis Patrick, who decided not to follow Sanders to Colorado but opted for TCU instead. The team has a new offensive coordinator in Kendal Briles, who comes over from Arkansas.

On defense, the Horned Frogs should be just as good, if not better than last year’s unit. Damonic Williams will help hold down the line, while linebackers Jamoi Hodge and Johnny Hodges are solid players. The secondary will welcome Florida transfer Avery Helm and will be solid as the season goes along.

TCU 38, Colorado 13

The Horned Frogs broke open a close game in the second half and the NCAAF scores saw TCU win 38-13. TCU led just 7-6 at halftime but scored on its first five possessions of the second half to put the game out of reach. The college football spreads had TCU -14, so the Horned Frogs backers were happy to see the second-half onslaught by TCU.

The Horned Frogs had a 413-348 yardage advantage, although Colorado had the ball for 33:18. Neither team turned the ball over, but TCU was 7 for 13 on third- and fourth-down conversions. Colorado was six for 18.

What to Expect

The Colorado vs Texas Christian odds aren’t giving the Buffaloes much of a chance and you can’t blame the sportsbook here. Remember, this is a team that won just one game last year playing a team that was in the college football championship game. Sure, the Buffaloes are going to be better than they were a year ago, but setting the bar at exceeding one win isn’t really asking for much.

The Buffaloes would probably give a better accounting of themselves if this game was played in October. With so many new faces, the team will likely need a game or two to learn how to play together.

TCU is a solid team. It’s doubtful they’ll be as good as last year’s team, but they’ll still be tough to go up against.

The Colorado vs Texas Christian odds on the total might be a shade high. There are some good defensive players on both teams. But again, it could take Colorado some time to play as a cohesive unit.

The Buffaloes aren’t quite as bad as some people are hoping and it wouldn’t be a shock to see them stay within the generous spread in this game.
