Georgia State Panthers Future Odds

Panthers Look to Win the Close Ones

The Georgia State Panthers were probably a bit better than their 4-8 record in 2022 indicated. But at the end of the day, you’re measured by wins and losses and it was a disappointing season for Georgia State, which had a season win total of 7.5. The Panthers were 0-5 in games decided by seven points or less. The Georgia State Panthers future odds are a little on the generous side after last season’s debacle.

Panthers Have Some Talent

Georgia State has some talented players returning. The Panthers also had some talented players transfer elsewhere, so it will be up to some younger players and incoming transfers to get the back up to par.

The offense should be fine with quarterback Darren Grainger returning. He threw for 2,443 yards and 18 touchdowns last season. Grainger was also the team’s leading rusher with 734 yards. Marcus Carroll was the team’s third-leading rusher last season with 622 yards and will be the main man in the backfield.

Leading receiver Jamari Thrash headed to Louisville, but big-play man Robert Lewis and others are back. The Panthers will have a solid group of receivers and have plenty of depth at the position.

The offensive line has potential, with transfers Colin Henrich and Tyden Ferris coming in to help big Travis Glover. If the line can get things figured out quickly, the offense should put up a fair number of points in some NCAA football games.

The defense isn’t exactly a strong point for Georgia State. The Panthers allowed 31.17 points per game last season. Georgia State brought in Chad Staggs to run the defense. The Panthers were ninth in total defense in the Sun Belt Conference.

The defense lost a few of its better players, with Thomas Gore heading to Miami, Fla., and Antavious Lane joining the North Carolina Tar Heels. But the Panthers also brought in a number of players and how quickly the group begins to play as a team will go a long way in determining how productive they are.

National Championship Odds: Dream On

Georgia State is one of those NCAAF teams that will be +100000 each year. Only alumni and fans of the team are likely to wager on them. The Panthers aren’t the best team in the Sun Belt, let alone the country.

Conference Odds: Panthers are Big Underdogs

Georgia State was +1000 to win the Sun Belt Conference last year and crash and burned. This year, the Georgia State Panthers future odds are +2200 and they could very well finish the same as last year’s 3-5 conference mark. But the Sun Belt has a number of decent football teams.

Sure, they’re not SEC caliber, but they’re minor bowl quality football teams. The Sagarin NCAAF rankings had the Sun Belt rated higher than the MAC, Mountain West and Conference USA. Even if things fall their way, it’s hard to see the Panthers finishing better than fourth or fifth in the Sun Belt.

Regular Season Wins: Not Out of the Question

The Panthers have a win total of 5.5 this season and it’s possible Georgia State can get six wins and a bowl berth. It may not be likely to happen, but it’s a possibility. Georgia State does get some of the tough Sun Belt teams at home, hosting Troy, Appalachian State and Marshall. They have a few winnable road games, such as a date at Old Dominion. But the Panthers also have a late-season game at LSU, which is simply a paycheck game.

Georgia State needs to get off to a good start, opening with home games against Rhode Island, UConn and a road game at Charlotte. The NCAAF predictions have Georgia State and Rhode Island essentially even. The Panthers are a fair amount better than UConn or Charlotte. After last year’s 0-4 start, a 2-1 or a 3-0 start could help the Panthers get to the sixth win.

The Georgia State Panthers future odds on the win total are heavy to the under, requiring bettors to lay -160. The take on the over 5.5 is +130, which isn’t all that bad. But it does require a six-win season. If you believe the Panthers can get off to a good start and win a couple of the tough Sun Belt Conference games at home, the over isn’t a bad wager at a decent price.
