Oregon State Beavers 2023 Future Odds

Since 2019, the Beavers are 29-14 ATS; Second Best in NCAAF

The Oregon State Beavers have quietly been one of the better teams against the number (29-14), despite 2022 being the team’s first competitive season (10-3/6-3) in the Pac-12 since 2012. Despite being a solid College Football betting option, Oregon State is just 34-65 SU (-1497 units) since 2014, but a brighter road may be ahead after compiling a 16-8 record over the last two seasons.

The Beavers have been to two straight bowl games (1-1), including last season when they crushed the Florida Gators (30-3) in the Las Vegas Bowl. Let’s start our Oregon State future odds preview with a peek at who’s coming and going on the roster and coaching staff.

After 10-Win Season, There Are Massive Expectations In Corvallis

Despite most books not putting up odds on the Oregon State Beavers’ chances to make the College Football playoffs, that hasn’t dampened the spirits of Beaver Nation after the school won double-digit games for just the third time since the school started its program in 1893. In order for this to happen, Oregon State must be perfect against a schedule that is ranked 63rd in the nation with opponents owning a combined 80-70 record SU in 2022.

With the loss of major pieces off last year’s team and staff, this seems like wishful thinking. Head Coach Jonathan Smith led OSU to a final NCAA ranking of 17th, after his second winning season in five years in the state known as the Beaver State. Before the sixth-year head coach arrived in town, Oregon State was 1-11. Beavers fans think this could be the year where the school knocks on the door of the playoffs. Clemson transfer DJ Uiagalelei will be behind center, in addition to 4-star recruit Aidan Chiles who will compete for playing time at quarterback.

Oregon State lost six players in the transfer portal while bringing in six. Their biggest losses will come at the tight end and cornerback positions after TE Luke Musgrave (Green Bay) and CB Alex Austin (Buffalo) took their talents to the NFL.

There has been some shake-up on the coaching staff as well after six coaches off last year’s staff will no longer be with the program, including running backs coach A.J. Steward who left the program to take an assistant coaching position at Baylor. Granted, three of the coaches who left were graduate assistants but the lack of familiar faces on the sidelines can take a small effect early in the season. Let’s continue our Oregon State Beavers future odds preview with a look at their National Championship chances.

National Championship Odds: Expectations Too High

We used this headline to pretty much say there isn’t hope for a National Championship in 2023, but there are some interesting numbers that bettors can take with them into the season. You can easily see the progress that the Beavers have made after comparing last year’s National Championship odds to this season.

In 2022, OSU was +25000 win take home a title, their 2023 odds have them at half of that (+12500). Quite a jump for a program that has struggled for respect in its own state. NCAA Football stats say in order to do that they must continue to be one of the better defensive teams in college football.

In 2022, the Beavers were 33rd in the nation on defense (342.8), specifically 19th against the run (114.6). Fans’ expectations are through the roof, sportsbooks don’t share in that enthusiasm with Oregon State settling in as the 31st choice to win a championship. We think they’re one or two years away from being a serious contender.

Conference Odds: Beavers Behind Big Four In Pac-12

Improvement and respect don’t always come as fast as supporters of a program would like. Last season, Oregon State was +3300 to win the Pac-12, they finished two games behind USC (5th overall). This season, OSU is still the fifth choice in the conference but the odds have shortened up to +1000.

Some think the only game they won’t be favored in is their regular season finale at Oregon, but there are plenty of chances to stumble. A week four date at home against Utah will be a struggle, as will a revenge spot for UCLA in week six after getting smoked by the Beavers in 2019 as a favorite.

Dates against Washington and Oregon will likely make it a difficult task for Oregon State to hit the 10-win mark again in 2023. We conclude our Oregon State future odds preview with a look at their best future wager on the board.

Regular Season Wins: Bet Beavers to Go Under Projections

Fans won’t like this, but we’ve cashed in on our Oregon State future wagers in five of the last six seasons where we’ve decided to make a move. This season’s number is a complete trap. After winning 10 games and bringing in a quarterback transfer from a power five conference, the books have made this year’s number 8.5 (under -130).

It will be hard for bettors to resist putting their money on the total, especially with a fairly soft schedule, but we don’t think the offense will be as good as most think. We anticipate losses to Utah, Washington, and Oregon, in addition to a surprise loss along the way, perhaps at Washington State. We predict an 8-4 season, but another trip to a bowl game. That concludes our Oregon State future odds preview, we wish you all the best with your wagers this upcoming season.
