Louisville vs North Carolina State Odds: Louisville’s Bright Offense

Louisville's Speed Has Helped Them Earn 542 Yards of Offense This Season

The Louisville Cardinals will visit the North Carolina State Wolfpack for an ACC matchup on Friday night.

The Cardinals already have multiple ACC wins this season, along with wins against Murray State and Indiana. Louisville most recently knocked off ACC foe Boston College at home, 56-28.

On the other hand, North Carolina State rallied past Virginia. Despite an early loss to Notre Dame, the Wolfpack are now 3-1. However, the Wolfpack weren’t solid favorites in all three other wins. A game against Louisville will be a massive test.

Can North Carolina State find a way past Louisville in Friday night’s ACC showdown?

Louisville’s Jeff Brohm Paying Dividends in Year 1

It hasn’t always been pretty. However, the Louisville Cardinals are 4-0 in Jeff Brohm’s first season as head coach of the Cardinals.

Brohm earned his first win as head coach with a 39-34 win over Georgia Tech. He then added his second win against Murray State, escaped Indiana for a third win, and beat the brakes off Boston College for the fourth win.

The Cardinals’ schedule will only get harder from here on out. But Louisville fans are ecstatic with Brohm and the new-look Cardinals.

Brohm has always been a unique play caller on offense. He’s a creative mind and has a veteran quarterback that understands the system.

Brohm brought in Jack Plummer to be the starting quarterback of the team. Plummer had begun his career in Purdue with Brohm and got another opportunity to play with Brohm.

Plummer acknowledged that Louisville plays the game to win. Therefore, they want to be aggressive, which Brohm always preaches.

A 56-point outburst against Boston College was precisely what Brohm was looking for last weekend. This offense has averaged close to 550 yards, with nearly 240 yards on the ground. It’s one of the most dynamic offenses in the ACC behind Brohm.

North Carolina State Struggling To Limit Big Plays

Last week’s matchup with North Carolina State was emotional for quarterback Brennan Armstrong. Armstrong left Virginia for North Carolina State in the transfer portal and then had to play his former team.

Of course, Virginia was going to bring it after he left. There was added motivation there.

But North Carolina escaped Virginia and is now 3-1 on the year. The Wolfpack are also 1-0 in the ACC. They can breathe now.

However, the defense hasn’t performed well in the secondary.

The Wolfpack allowed six explosive plays from Virginia. The secondary typically can’t keep up, which will be a problem against Louisville, who has many explosive and fast players at playmaking positions.

North Carolina State allowed 42-yard and 59-yard passing plays against Virginia. They also allowed an 80-yard touchdown to Notre Dame and gave up another 65-yard and 40-yard pass in that game. Even against UConn, North Carolina State allowed a 71-yard touchdown.

Those big, explosive plays are killing their momentum.

Louisville vs North Carolina State Odds

The Louisville Cardinals are standing at -3 on the road, with the total sitting at 56.5 for this Friday night matchup under the lights.

Louisville has started the season 4-0 but has only gone 2-2 against the spread. The Cardinals have won as massive favorites but have lost against the spread as favorites of -10 or fewer. This time, they’re a -3 favorite against North Carolina State.

Meanwhile, the Over has hit in two of four games, with one game being a push and the other game finishing with an Under.

On the flip side, North Carolina State has lost against the spread in all four games to start the season. They began the year as 14.5-point favorites against UConn but only won by 10.

Then, the Wolfpack took on Notre Dame as a seven-point underdog and lost by 21. After that, they were a 43-point favorite against VMI but scored just 45 points in a 45-7 win. Finally, against Virginia, North Carolina State was a 7.5-point favorite and won by only three.

The Under has hit in three of their first four games. But that was the opposite of the trend last season when North Carolina State was consistently hitting the Over.

Louisville’s Explosive Plays Will Help Win This Game!

Louisville has averaged nearly 550 yards of offense, including 304.8 yards in the air and 237.3 yards on the ground this season. The Cardinals will take a lot of chances with Jack Plummer under center.

Plummer has thrown for 1,120 yards and has ten touchdowns. However, he also has averaged an interception per game.

Still, the run game has been electric with Jawhar Jordan, who has scored six touchdowns on 50 carries, averaging 9.6 yards per carry.

North Carolina State has only allowed 114.5 yards per game on the ground. The Wolfpack are solid against the run and haven’t missed a lot of tackles. Even the pass rush is effective. It’s just the secondary losing or missing their assignment for the Wolfpack.

Meanwhile, the North Carolina State offense has Brennan Armstrong leading in passing and rushing through the season’s first four weeks. Armstrong has thrown five touchdowns but also has three rushing touchdowns. However, he has four interceptions and will play against a Louisville secondary that has been good enough this season.

The Cardinals are massive up front and will create havoc against the run and as a pass-rush unit. They’ve allowed under 360 yards per game. They’re identical to North Carolina State’s defense, except the secondary doesn’t let massive plays down the field.

Plus, Louisville’s offense has gelled much more throughout the season. They’ve added over 150 more yards per game.

The Louisville vs North Carolina State odds have Louisville only winning by three points. But the explosive plays the Cardinals will have should be the difference in this game against the Wolfpack.

In the offseason, one of the more significant NCAAF news stories was Jeff Brohm taking over Louisville. If you’ve checked the NCAAF scores and odds throughout the season, you’d see how well Brohm and Louisville have done.

Take Louisville -3.
