Navy 2023 Future Odds: National Championship, Conference, Regular Season Wins and Player Props

Midshipmen to Have New Look For New Season

The Navy Midshipmen welcome a new coach in 2023, promoting defensive coordinator Brian Newberry to the head job. Most of the problems with last year’s 4-8 team were on the offensive side of the ball. The defense wasn’t bad. Newberry brought Kennesaw State’s Grant Chesnut on board to run the offense after guiding the Owls’ spread option attack for the last eight years. It’s safe to say the 2023 Navy stats are going to look a bit different than what has been seen in the past. But will it lead to more success on the field?

Navy’s Rushing Game Will Take to the Air

The Midshipmen’s vaunted triple option will still be featured prominently. But there are going to be more wrinkles thrown into the fray. Navy will throw the ball more, add tight ends into the mix and work out of some different formations from time to time. The 2023 Navy stats will certainly show more passing attempts than last year.

There are question marks at quarterback, as both Tai Lavatai and Xavier Arline aren’t expected to be at 100%. Teddy Gleaton took the majority of reps in spring practice and is viewed as the best passer of the three. But don’t be surprised if Navy uses several quarterbacks in the opener against Notre Dame in Dublin, Ireland.

Leading rusher Daba Fofana returns for Navy and the Midshipmen have four starters back on the offensive line. Navy was No. 4 in the NCAA football team stats in rushing last season. But that number should fall a bit this season with more pass attempts.

Navy was No. 2 in the country at stopping the run last season and the best in the American Athletic Conference on third down stops. The Midshipmen aren’t the biggest team up front, but they have good athletes who can get the job done.

The secondary will be a strength of the team. Led by veteran Rayuan Lane, the defensive backs are solid and swarm to the football. They just need the 2023 Navy stats on offense to be better and not leave them on the field for long periods of time.

National Championship Odds: Navy With No Chance

Navy is +100000 for the second consecutive year and this season will turn out no different from last season in terms of a national championship. The only people who should be betting on the Midshipmen are Navy veterans. That way they can brag to their buddies how much they can win should Navy win the championship.

Conference Odds: Midshipmen Are Definite Longshots

Navy is expected to finish in the middle of the pack in conference play and its odds of +3000 reflect that. Still, it’s better than the +8000 of a season ago and shows the Midshipmen are getting a bit of respect. But Tulane and SMU are probably a little bit more than Navy can handle at the moment. A better goal for the Midshipmen is returning to a bowl game.

Regular Season Wins: Navy Will Be Close to Number

Navy was handed a season win total of 6.5 wins. The Midshipmen will finish pretty close to that. The NCAAF schedule of Navy should see the Midshipmen win between five and eight games. It’s how Navy fares in close games that will determine this wager.

Navy’s schedule runs from one of the top teams in the country Notre Dame in the opener to Wagner in the second game, which is almost a guaranteed victory. In addition to the slate of conference games, the Midshipmen also have Air Force and Army on the schedule. Navy faces Air Force in Week 8 then has a bye before visiting Temple and then hosting UAB. That will be the key stretch of the season for the Midshipmen.

It’s probably easier to make a case for Navy finishing with fewer than 6.5 wins than it is for finishing with more. It shouldn’t be one of your best college football bets, but the under offers a little more value. But Navy should be a more entertaining team to watch in the new season due to the offensive changes.
