Kent State 2023 Future Odds: National Championship, Conference, Regular Season Wins and Player Props

Golden Flashes One of Worst Teams in College Football

Kent State finished 5-7 last season. But the Golden Flashes aren’t going to win five games this season. Anything more than two victories would have to be considered a successful season for Kent State and new coach Kenni Burns. The 2023 Kent State stats aren’t likely to come anywhere close to last season, the result of zero returning offensive starters. The defense is a little better with four returning starters. But it’s going to be a long season for the Golden Flashes.

Kent State Will Struggle Mightily

The Golden Flashes had some solid players on offense last year. But nearly all of them have moved on to other schools. Starting quarterback Colin Schlee has transferred to UCLA, while leading rusher Marquez Cooper has moved to an equally bad team in Ball State. Wide receiver Dante Cephas moved to Penn State.

While the Golden Flashes were hit hard by the transfer portal, the team took advantage of the transfer portal to sign a pair of quarterbacks. Jaren Lewis (Kansas State) and Michael Alaimo (Purdue) will be in the mix for the starting QB job, while Kansas transfer Ky Thomas will get an opportunity to win the starting running back job.

Burns was running backs coach/assistant head coach for the Minnesota Golden Gophers for seasons before being named head coach at Kent State. He may want to run the ball more, but if the line can’t block, the 2023 Kent State stats are going to be exceptionally dismal considering the talent the team lost.

There are a few familiar faces returning on the defensive side of the ball. Defensive lineman CJ West and linebacker Khali Saunders are both solid players and will anchor the defense. Despite a defense that allowed 29 points a game, Kent State was just 4-7-1 in totals for those who partake in college football betting. The Golden Flashes were 5-7 against the college football spreads, in addition to going 5-7 straight-up.

The 2023 Kent State stats have to be better defensively, as this year’s offense isn’t likely to average 28.8 points with all the defections.

National Championship Odds: Not a Chance

Those who bet Kent State at +100000 to win the NCAA championship last year were throwing their money away. Those who bet Kent State at +100000 to win the NCAA championship this year are doing the same.

Conference Odds: Avoiding the Basement a Better Goal

Kent State was just +1000 to win the MAC last season, which is a far cry from the +15000 the Golden Flashes are this year. But the Golden Flashes aren’t likely to win more than a couple of conference games against the other weak foes in the conference. There are at least eight teams who should finish above Kent State in the MAC college football standings.

Regular Season Wins: Not Much Needed From Golden Flashes

The Golden Flashes don’t need to do much to go over their wins total. But then again, the team doesn’t have a whole lot to work with. Kent State has three very winnable games on its schedule in Central Connecticut, Akron, and Ball State. If the Golden Flashes stumble in one of those three games, it’s going to be tough for Kent State to earn a win against one of the other MAC teams.
