Louisiana Tech 2023 Future Odds: National Championship, Conference, Regular Season Wins and Player Props
With New QB in Place, Expectations Heighten for Bulldogs

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs are suddenly a constant in the ever-changing Conference USA. The league will look drastically different this year because of realignment, starting at the top. UTSA is gone. So, too, is North Texas.
Where do the Bulldogs fit in the reconfigured conference? Read on as we assess some key 2023 Louisiana Tech stats in our team preview.

Bachmeier Gives La Tech a Chance
Louisiana Tech underwhelmed under first-year head coach Sonny Cumbie in 2022, going 3-9. The Bulldogs had their share of issues, none greater than defensively. They allowed an average of 37.9 points, fourth-most in FBS behind only Charlotte (39.4), South Florida (41.1), and Colorado (44.5). Six opponents scored at least 40 points, while two hit 50. Yuck. Cumbie reached into the transfer portal to help address that problem, adding linebackers Jeslord Boateng (Akron) and Kolbe Fields (LSU).
The biggest addition, however, may be at quarterback. Hank Bachmeier is coming aboard from Boise State, where he threw for over 6,600 yards and 41 touchdowns in four seasons. Bachmeier’s presence should do wonders for Louisiana Tech, which needs a jolt after two straight sub-.500 seasons. The Bulldogs’ last bowl appearance came during the COVID-interrupted 2020 season when they went 5-5 and lost 38-3 to Georgia Southern in the New Orleans Bowl. Conference USA was hit hard by realignment in the offseason, giving the Bulldogs an opportunity to start fresh. Keep that in mind as you assess the 2023 Louisiana Tech stats.
National Championship Odds: It’s a Pipe Dream
Need we say more? Louisiana Tech is a middle-of-the-road C-USA team. Maybe, just maybe, it will beat expectations and contend for a conference championship. But that’s the ceiling. National championship? Not. A. Chance. Even +100000 seems too short.
Conference Odds: Better Luck Next Year
C-USA underwent significant turnover during the offseason. Six schools departed for the American Athletic Conference, including two-time defending champion UTSA. In that sense, it’s quite difficult to predict how the league will shake out in 2023. There’s not a whole lot left. Western Kentucky is a +145 favorite, followed by newcomer Liberty at +250. Louisiana Tech currently holds the fourth-best odds at +700, but keep in mind, there are only nine schools altogether. Two of them — Jacksonville State and Sam Houston State — are both ineligible for postseason play due to FCS transition rules. Sure, the Bulldogs can possibly move up the NCAA football standings .But it’s not too likely.
Regular Season Wins: Is Improvement Near?
Despite being projected for just 4.5 wins, Louisiana Tech still managed to disappoint last season. The Bulldogs hit the Under again, losing six of their last seven games. Is improvement on the horizon? Oddsmakers expect a bit of a rebound. The Aug. 26 opener against FIU is winnable. In fact, the Bulldogs are currently a 10-point favorite, per college football odds. They then return to C-USA play on Sept. 29 against UTEP. In between, the Bulldogs face SMU, Northwestern State, North Texas, and Nebraska. The figure, the Bulldogs will be underdogs in three of those non-conference games on the NCAAF schedule. To exceed 5.5 wins for the first time since 2019, they’ll need to do some damage within the conference.
To Make Playoffs: Nope
No team from Conference USA has ever made the College Football Playoff. It will likely stay that way for the foreseeable future. Oddsmakers aren’t even entertaining the thought.
