Arkansas 2023 Future Odds: National Championship, Conference, Regular Season Wins and Player Props

Razorbacks Defense Key to Season

The Arkansas Razorbacks have to be a little disappointed in last season. For a team that had a regular season wins total of 7.5, going 6-6 is a letdown. After three weeks, the Razorbacks were ranked No. 10 in the country. But Arkansas dropped five of its next seven games. The Razorbacks return plenty of talent on offense. But if the 2023 Arkansas stats aren’t better defensively, another six-win season could be in store for the Razorbacks.

Razorbacks Seeking Rebound After Lackluster Season

The Arkansas Razorbacks were probably a better football team than the NCAA football standings showed. While Arkansas was 6-6 in the regular season, the Razorbacks lost four games by three points or less. The Razorbacks have to do a better job making plays when the game is on the line. That’s the difference between going 9-4 in the NCAA football standings as Arkansas did in 2021 and going 7-6.

The offense should be in good shape with quarterback KJ Jefferson returning. He threw for 2,648 yards and 24 touchdowns a season ago while being intercepted five times. The NCAAF stats show he also rushed for 640 yards and nine more touchdowns.

The ‘Hawgs have a fine stable of running backs, led by Rocket Sanders, who ran for 1,443 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also had 28 receptions for two more scores. The primary backups, AJ Green, Rashod Dubinion, and Dominique Johnson are all capable of stepping in when needed.

The Razorbacks were hit hard at wide receiver. Arkansas brought in several players from the transfer portal, including Tyrone Broden, who had seven TDs last year with Bowling Green. The Razorbacks need several players to step up to take advantage of Jefferson’s skills. The 2023 Arkansas stats in the passing game could see a bit of a drop-off if the receivers can’t elevate their play.

Arkansas saw several linemen move on, but have a couple of starters coming back. How well the line plays could be the biggest question facing Arkansas on offense.

Arkansas had a school-record 42 sacks last year. But that didn’t help much, as the Razorbacks allowed 465.2 yards and 30.6 points per game. The Razorbacks are in decent shape up front, but it gets a little questionable at linebacker. Chris Paul Jr. is a solid player but needs more help from his fellow linebackers.

The secondary returns a few players who saw extended playing in 2022. But considering how bad the team’s pass defense was at times, that may not be a great thing. The Razorbacks also hit the transfer portal hard for the secondary.

National Championship Odds: No Chance for Razorbacks

Last year the Razorbacks were just +8000 to win the national championship. Bettors apparently learned their lesson, as Arkansas is now +20000. The Razorbacks have the talent to get to a bowl game. But anything beyond that is a huge stretch.

Conference Odds: Arkansas is a Massive Longshot

After being +5000 to win the SEC last year, Arkansas is a lofty +8000 to win the conference this year and even that feels too low. The Razorbacks simply aren’t as good as Georgia, Alabama, LSU, and several others. That isn’t a knock against the Razorbacks. But the reality is when you play in the SEC, you have to be one of the best teams in the country to win the conference. Arkansas isn’t quite there.

Regular Season Wins: Schedule Makes Winning Tough Task for Arkansas

Those who bet Arkansas over 7.5 wins last year had to feel confident after the team’s 3-0 start and No. 10 ranking. But the SEC schedule caught up to the Razorbacks. The same thing could very well happen this season. After three very winnable games against Western Carolina, Kent State and BYU, Arkansas has LSU, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and Alabama in consecutive weeks.

The tail end of the schedule isn’t as brutal, but that’s probably as tough of a four-game stretch as you’ll see in college football. If the Razorbacks can be 4-3 after those games, an 8-win season is a definite possibility. If Arkansas is 3-4, the Razorbacks are likely looking at a seven-win season. It will likely come down to the defense and what the 2023 Arkansas stats look like on that side of the football.
