Pac 12 Showdown: (10) Utah Utes vs (19) Oregon State Beavers Odds Preview

Oregon State !st Loss at WSU; Utah Remains Undefeated

The 10th-ranked Utah Utes (4-0) head to Corvallis, Oregon to take on the 19th-ranked Oregon State Beavers (3-1) at Reser Stadium. The Utes are coming off a less-than-impressive win against UCLA (14-7) as a 3-point home favorite, bringing their record against the spread this season to 2-1-1. The Beavers dropped a heartbreaking 38-35 decision to Washington State while failing to cover for the second straight week, bringing their ATS record to 2-2. College Football betting lines show Oregon State as a 3.5-point favorite with a total of 44.5. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:00 pm ET / 6:00 pm PT and can be seen Friday on FS1. Let’s continue our Utah vs Oregon State odds preview with a breakdown of both teams from a betting perspective.

Revenge Spot For Utah?

We’re aware that the Utes smoked the Beavers last year, 42-16, in a revenge spot after losing in 2021 (42-34) in Corvallis. If we’re Head Coach Kyle Whittingham, we would use that road loss as motivation even though Utah has had its way with Oregon State winning six of their last seven meetings dating back to 2014.

It looks like Nate Johnson will continue to lead the team until Cam Rising returns. Johnson’s numbers are less than impressive, 31-49-398 yards, but you interpret them differently when you realize he’s a red-shirt freshman whose legs (150 yards rushing, 3TD) may be more impressive than his arm at this point. Not bad, but it’s definitely a direct reflection of the Utes‘ first four games going under the total by an average of 14 points per game.

Taking out games against FCS schools, Utah’s record against the total is 16-16 since 2020, and 14-14 on the road since 2018. Not exactly statistics that will sway a wager, but we’ve seen all we need to to make a selection on this one. We now turn our Utah vs Oregon State odds preview attention to the Beavers.

Expect Beavers Defense To Bounce Back

Pullman, Washington is a difficult place to play. Most weekends we’ll look up at the NCAAF scoreboard to find that another over ticket has cashed against Washington State, but it’s important to not take too much from Oregon State’s defensive effort.

Up to that point, OSU allowed just 33 points in three prior games. There were 69 total pass attempts in the loss, with WSU QB Cameron Ward averaging over 14 yards per completion. The Beavers are still ranked 44th in the nation in total defense and 8th against the run.

To make it more difficult, we know that Oregon State has been an over team for years, cashing 23 of their last 32 games, but sometimes bettors have to go with their gut. We conclude our Utah vs Oregon State odds preview with our official selection.

Don’t Try To Overthink This Wager

You know what we’ve said it 100 times, this weekend’s College Football schedule is unique to itself, and last week’s scores have little to no bearing on what we’re going to see this week. Stick with what you know about both teams. Utah has leaned on their defense to win their first four games while averaging just 19.3 points per game against FBS schools.

The closest they’ve come to going over the total was against Florida in week one and they missed that by almost 10 points. Oregon State’s top-ranked defense was shredded last week, they will bounce back because Washington State has a history of getting teams into track meets, no worries about that this week.

Both NCAAF teams will play a methodical pace that will easily cash another under ticket for bettors. That does it for our Utah vs Oregon State odds preview, we wish you nothing but the best in your week five betting.
