What Might Have Been For the Aggies

When Texas A&M landed the top recruiting class in the nation in 2022, it was supposed to push the Aggies into the role of a national title contender. However, Texas A&M is 12-12 since that class arrived in College Station.

Texas A&M was in the top 20 in both scoring offense and scoring defense in the second quarter.

The Aggies ended up ranking 25th in scoring offense and coming in 32nd in scoring defense, but didn’t have the results and that resulted in a costly dismissal of head coach Jimbo Fisher. Keep that in mind when it comes to the Texas Bowl betting preview.

Texas A&M is 1-5-1 against the college football odds in its last seven games.

Departures & Injuries

Former Aggies defensive coordinator Mike Elko returns to Texas A&M, this time as the head coach, after firing Fisher. However, interim coach Elijah Robinson will coach the Aggies in the bowl game.

Receiver Evan Stewart (38 catches) is questionable for Texas A&M while quarterback Conner Weigman and receiver Ainias Smith (53 catches) are all out.

Quarterback Max Johnson is transferring to North Carolina with receiver Raymond Cottrell on his way to Kentucky. Offensive linemen James Bailey, Jordan Spasojevic-Moko and Remington Strickland and safety Jardin Gilbert join defensive linemen Micaiah Overton, LT Overton (17 tackles) and Walter Nolen (37 tackles, four sacks) in the transfer portal.

Cowboys Know How to Seal The Deal

Oklahoma State is in the top five nationally in points scored in the fourth quarter. It helped the Cowboys go 4-1 in one-score games with all of those contests taking place in conference play.

The Cowboys outscored Kansas 12-0 in the fourth quarter, put up 28 points in the final quarter against West Virginia and scored 10 points in 60 seconds to take control of the matchup with Oklahoma.

It doesn’t hurt to have the leading rusher in the country Ollie Gordon, one of the top college football players, to help close out games. That is something to consider when looking at the Texas Bowl betting preview.

Oklahoma State has covered in six of its last nine games.

Departures & Injuries

For Oklahoma State, running backs Elijah Collins (142 rushing yards) and Jaden Nixon (197 rushing yards) are questionable while receivers Talyn Shettron and De’Zhaun Stribling (14 catches) as well as linebacker Justin Wright are out. Safety Lardarius Webb, defensive lineman Ricky Lolohea and offensive lineman Tyrone Webber are in the transfer portal.

Aggies Thriving As The Favorite

Texas A&M has won its last six games when listed as the favorite. However, the Aggies are 0-5-1 against the spread in the last six matchups versus Oklahoma State.

Texas A&M is on its third starting quarterback with Jaylen Henderson having completed 67.5% of his passes for 704 yards with six touchdown passes and two interceptions in three games. He has also run for 104 yards with two TD runs against Mississippi State.

Keep an eye on the transfer portal updates as both teams could lose more key players between those heading to other schools and NFL draft prospects.

The total has gone over in six of the last eight games played by Oklahoma State. The total is set at 53.5 for the Texas Bowl.

Texas A&M has won its last three bowl games and that included a 24-21 win over Oklahoma State in the Texas Bowl. The Cowboys are 5-2 in their last seven bowl games. That could come into play when making NCAA bowl predictions.

When looking at the game within the game, just a reminder that Oklahoma State has allowed just 13 sacks this season while Texas A&M is sixth nationally with 42 sacks with Edgerrin Cooper and Shemar Turner combining for 14 sacks.
