Wyoming also has reason for optimism after a 7-6 record overall, 5-3 in the Mountain West under 10th-year Head Coach Craig Bohl. The Cowboys lost 30-27 (OT) to Ohio in the 2022 Arizona Bowl.

With plenty of optimism for both programs, this should be an entertaining way to start the season. Texas Tech is a 14-point road favorite, with the total dipping to 50 ½. It will be a rare road trip for a Power Five team to make to start the season, especially when the opponent is a Mountain West foe who likely isn’t writing a big check. The point for Joey McGwire is to build a team that can compete on a national scale, and in order to do that, you must be willing to go anywhere at any time.

A win will end the Red Raider faithful into a frenzy, with Oregon coming into Lubbock next week. Tech returns 16 starters, 10 on offense, all with memories of wins against Texas and Oklahoma. Cowboys Will Have Some Familiarity With Tech

Head Coach Craig Bohl will have some advantage heading into Saturday’s game because of his history coaching in the Big 12 after serving as the defensive coordinator at Rice and Nebraska before finding his way to Laramie. How that experience will serve the veteran coach remains to be seen, but he’ll have his team ready enough to cover 14 14-point spread.

In order to give Wyoming bettors a win, they’ll have to do two things. One, contain Tech QB Tyler Shough, who has been terrific since transferring from Oregon three seasons ago, and second, run the ball well enough to keep the ball out of Shough’s hands. Wyoming has been battling injuries in the backfield, so they’ll rely on D.Q. James and Jamari Ferrell to carry the load behind an experienced offensive line. The Cowboys were 6-5 ATS in 2022, their first winning season against the number since 2019 (7-5 ATS). Under Bohl, Wyoming is 50-50-1 ATS (-291 units).
