Bannister Looks To Get St. Louis Into Playoff Position

The St. Louis Blues have shown a slight improvement since Drew Bannister took over as the interim head coach after the Blues fired former Stanley Cup-winning coach Craig Berube.

The Blues were 13-14-1 at the time that Berube was let go. They averaged 2.8 goals per game while allowing 3.3 goals during that stretch. St. Louis was connecting on just 8.4% of its power-play opportunities, one of the worst marks in the NHL.

The Blues are 18-12-2 since Bannister took over. The power-play percentage has jumped to 24.8% and the goals-against average has dropped to 2.88. That is something to consider when looking at the Blues vs Flyers betting odds.

Robert Thomas, Jordan Kyrou, Pavel Buchenevich, Brandon Saad, and Jake Neighbours all have scored at least 10 games with Bannister as the interim head coach.

The total went under in four of the last six games for St. Louis.

Flyers Look To Return to Their Winning Ways

Philadelphia began February with four straight wins as the Flyers allowed just seven goals in wins over Florida, Winnipeg, Seattle, and Arizona. It has been more of a grind since then.

The Flyers are just 3-4-1 over the last eight games after topping Ottawa on Saturday.

Scoring goals has not been the issue, as the Flyers are putting up 3.5 goals during those eight games. That could factor into the Blues vs Flyers betting odds.

The Flyers are allowed 3.63 goals per game even though they lead the NHL with an 86.2 penalty-killing percentage over the last eight games.

The Flyers will have to figure out a plan for backing up starting goalie Samuel Ersson, as he has started six of the last eight games.

The total has landed over in six of Philadelphia’s last nine games.

Last Meeting

When it comes to the NHL scores, Owen Tippett broke a 2-2 tie with 5:33 left to play, and Joel Farabee added an empty-net goal as Philadelphia won 4-2 on Jan. 15 in a game that went off as a Pick’em. The game landed on the six-goal total.

The teams have split the last six games played in Philadelphia, with both teams scoring 16 goals in those six contests.

Blues vs Flyers Betting Preview

Both the St. Louis Blues and Philadelphia Flyers are coming off wins after a stretch of underwhelming results.

Philadelphia is 10-6-1 as the favorite this season while St. Louis going 23-21-3 as the underdog.

The Flyers are 15-16 against the spread at home.

Just 10 of the road games for the Blues landing over the total while 16 of Philadelphia’s home games went under the total. The total is at 6 for the NHL matchup between the Blues and the Flyers.

The Blues have dropped four of their last five games and are 5-11 over the last 16 road games against the Flyers.

Philadelphia is 5-2 outright in its last seven games as a home favorite but has covered in just two of those games. The Blues are 9-11-2 as a road underdog.

The total went under in six of the last eight games for the Blues against Eastern Conference teams and in nine of the previous 13 matchups against Metropolitan Division teams.

The total has gone over in four of the last six games when listed as the favorite.

Defenseman Justin Faulk had his first point since returning to the ice after being out for more than a month after going scoreless in his first two games back.

Travis Konecny, who leads the Flyers with 27 goals and 54 points, is out, as are defensemen Jamie Drysdale, Ryan Ellis, and Rasmus Ristolainen.

While the Flyers have a higher points percentage on the road, go with Philadelphia to take care of business on Monday.
