Kraken Out of Playoff Picture but Could Play Spoiler in Vegas
For the Seattle Kraken (28-27-12, 68 points) it’s too little too late to be included in this year’s postseason, but beating the Vegas Golden Knights (36-25-7, 79 points) at T-Mobile Arena, could be a small Band-Aid to a season-long wound.
Vegas is hanging on to the last wild card spot with Minnesota breathing down their neck, just three points behind, but the Knights could catch the Los Angeles Kings (two points behind) for third in the Pacific Division.
Oddsmakers have made the defending Stanley Cup winners a -185 favorite with a total of 6 (-110). The puck is scheduled to drop at 10:35 p.m. ET / 7:35 p.m. PT and can be seen on ESPN. Let’s start our Kraken vs Knights odds preview with a deeper analysis of Seattle.

Kraken Failed to Take Advantage of Home Cookin’
The Seattle Kraken were still in the playoff discussion and were coming up on a five-game homestand that really could have catapulted them closer to the Golden Knights for the last wild-card spot. Interestingly enough, it was a 5-4 overtime loss to Vegas that put the final death knell into its season.
It wasn’t that they lost a close battle, it was more about the way they lost. The Kraken held a 4-2 lead into the final eight minutes of the third, in a game they needed two points, but within a span of 7:37, William Karlsson and Jonathan Marchessault scored to send the game in overtime before Jack Eichel pounded home the game-winner.
Seattle went on to lose all five games of the homestand and any chance they had to make the postseason. Kraken bettors have lost 10.77 units this season.
Vegas Wheels Still Spinning
The Knights have won three of their last five games, but it still feels like the team is trying to find traction with 14 games left to play. Games like tonight’s are extremely important, and not because they want to catch the Los Angeles Kings, but because they need a confidence boost and that can only be done with a long winning streak.
Even in those three wins, none of them can be considered quality wins. You would have to go back three weeks to a 6-3 win at Toronto to find that kind of victory and that was ten games ago. That win was fueled by the Leafs handing the Knights a humiliating loss at home five days prior.
If we’re allowed to be cynical, handicappers would have to go back to look part to the early part of February when we could feel like VGK was on top of their game.
Some have questioned how healthy Adin Hill is after giving up four goals on just 20 shots in a loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, a question we should get our answer to after morning skate before a game the Knights must come out on top of this NHL score.Â
Nothing is Easy for Either Team
Whether neither team nor the Knights make the postseason, one thing is for sure, both teams are struggling for offensive continuity. With a total of six we’re asking ourselves, do we believe that either Vegas or Seattle can give us four goals to help push the other over the total and the answer is no.
The Knights have scored just seven goals in their last three games, while the Kraken have managed eight in their last five and four of the eight came against Vegas. I anticipate that both teams will come out playing like they can’t lose, laying the red carpet down for an under (6) wager.
