Toronto Looks To Keep Rolling Against The Capitals

The Maple Leafs vs Capitals odds favor Visiting Toronto after disappointing loss

Marner-Less Maple Leafs Look To Rebound on the Road

Three third-period goals weren’t enough as the Toronto Maple Leafs lost on the road to the Philadelphia Flyers. They look to have more luck against the Washington Capitals. The Maple Leafs vs Capitals odds favor visiting Toronto.

The Maple Leafs have won six of the last seven meetings against Washington although the lone win for the Capitals during that time did come at home.

The NHL betting lines have +165 odds for the Maple Leafs to cover against the puck line as the 1.5-goal favorites. Toronto is priced at -135 to win the game outright compared to +120 odds for the Capitals.

A quick look at the NHL playoff picture shows that Toronto is in third place in the Atlantic Division and would play defending Eastern Conference champion Florida in the first round if the postseason began today. Washington is one point behind Detroit in the race for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Toronto looks to join the Florida Panthers and the New York Rangers as Eastern Conference teams with 21 road wins.

Toronto is tied for seventh at +1400 in the odds to win the Stanley Cup. Washington is well back at +25000 in the championship odds.

No Road Woes For Matthews

Auston Matthews leads the NHL with 25 goals on the road this season even though he has just one goal in his last five road games. A more impressive number might be his plus/minus rating of +17 in 34 road games.

Matthews had a pair of assists in Tuesday’s loss to the Flyers to give him points in 14 of his last 16 road contests. That is something to consider when looking at the Maple Leafs vs Capitals odds.

Matthews has at least two points in each of his last three road games versus the Capitals.

Toronto is 6-2 in its last eight road games.

Ovechkin Starting to Heat Up

Alexander Ovechkin is a nine-time 50-goal scorer but he was on a pace for 24 goals at the end of February.

Perhaps he is getting into the March Madness act because Ovechkin has three goals in his last two games including the game-winning scores against both Vancouver and Calgary. In nine games in March, he has five goals and four assists. That could play a role in the Maple Leafs vs Capitals odds.

The most important number might be that Washington has won each of the last five games when Ovechkin scores a goal.

Ovechkin didn’t have a point and was -3 in three games against Toronto last season and hadn’t scored a goal in six straight games versus the Maple Leafs before he had the lone Washington goal in their first meeting this season.

The NHL odds total has gone under in four of Washington’s last six games.

Last Meeting

Auston Matthews had a goal and an assist as the Maple Leafs jumped out to the four-goal lead before Alexander Ovechkin’s power-play goal late in the second period. Toronto has outscored the Capitals 9-2 in the last two meetings.

Just one of the last five meetings between Toronto and Washington went over the total.

Maple Leafs vs Capitals Betting Preview

Toronto has had mixed results in the second game when playing on back-to-back days with a 5-4 record. This includes a 2-3 mark when dropping the first game.

The Maple Leafs had won five games in a row as a road favorite before falling to the Flyers on Tuesday. The game went over the total in four of the last six matchups with the Maple Leafs favored on the road. Washington has won its last three games as the underdog at home with each of those contests finishing over the total.

Wingers Mitchell Marner and Ryan Reaves are out for the Maple Leafs as is defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin while forward T.J. Oshie is questionable for the Capitals.

Toronto is 30-21-6 as a favorite this season with the Capitals posting a 20-30-8 record as the underdog.

The Maple Leafs have covered in just 13 of their 34 road games. Washington is 17-15 against the spread on home ice.

Eighteen of the 32 home games for the Capitals finished under the total. However, when looking at the NHL schedule four of Washington’s last five games against Atlantic Division teams went over the total.

The total has gone over in five of the last six home games for Washington with the total set at 6.5 goals for this matchup.

The total landed over in each of Toronto’s last five games against teams from the Metropolitan Division and this matchup could be heading in that direction as well.
