Atalanta vs Roma Odds Signal Close Game

Crucial Match in Serie A Champions League Race

Both Sides in Europa League Action Thursday

While Atalanta qualified for their first-ever European Final on Thursday, Roma were the latest team to blow a late-game lead vs. Bayer Leverkusen. Now, Atalanta host Roma in a crucial Serie A match on Sunday. With five Champions League spots up for grabs in Serie A this season, Atalanta are in fifth and Roma are only behind La Dea on goal difference.

As Atalanta have a game in hand, this is a must win for Roma after Thursday’s Europa League disappointment. As the Atalanta vs Roma odds imply this could be a close match, we’ll take a look at the factors impacting the game.

Atalanta in Middle of Stretch of Important Matches

Atalanta dismantled Marseille on Thursday to the tune of a 3-0 victory. Ademola Lookman scored La Dea’s opener and he provided an assist on Matteo Ruggeri’s right footed stunner. Atalanta, with a 4-1 aggregate victory, booked their place in the Europa League Final on May 22nd. It’s Atalanta’s first-ever European Final and Gian Piero Gasperini has done an excellent job with his squad this season.

Three days after this match vs. Roma, Atalanta will also play in the Coppa Italia Final vs. Juventus. So, Atalanta have a bunch of important matches coming up and they’ve been one of the top Serie A picks in recent weeks. Atalanta have won their last three Serie A matches and five of their last six, in all competitions. Last weekend, last-placed Salernitana struck first vs. Atalanta but Gianluca Scamacca and Teun Koopmeiners got on the scoresheet in La Dea’s 2-1 comeback win.

Scamacca didn’t score vs. Marseille on Thursday but he has found the net seven times in his last nine matches. Level on points, with one game fewer played than Roma, Atalanta are in fifth place in the Serie A standings. La Dea have the longest active winning streak in Serie A and will be thinking about a top four finish. Currently, they show +125 Serie A betting odds to overtake Juventus or Bologna in the top four by seasons’ end. However, defenders Sead Kolasinac, Emil Holm and Rafael Toloi are injured for Atalanta.

Roma Fall Short on Thursday

Roma gave Bayer Leverkusen, unbeaten in 49 games this season, a run for their money on Thursday but fell short. The Giallorossi entered the night two goals behind after the first leg of the Europa League Semifinal. However, Leandro Paredes scored two penalties for a Paulo Dybala-less Roma to put them right back in the fixture. Leverkusen retained their status as comeback kings as they scored in the 82nd and 97th minutes to draw 2-2 on the night and win 4-2, on aggregate.

It’s the first time in the last three seasons that Roma haven’t qualified for a European final. Now, in sixth place in the Serie A table, Daniele De Rossi’s men are at serious risk of missing out on the Champions League. This is a massively important match for Roma and they can almost kiss their Champions League hopes goodbye without some kind of result.

The Giallorossi haven’t done themselves many favors over the last few weeks. They’ve won just one of their last four Serie A games and have drawn on consecutive Matchdays. Last time out, Juventus defender Gleison Bremer canceled out Romelu Lukaku’s goal as the sides drew 1-1. Defender Leonardo Spinazzola went off with an injury in the first half vs. Leverkusen on Thursday and will be considered a doubt for this one.

Match Analysis & Odds

Atalanta look reasonably likely to continue their winning streak here, as La Dea are +105 favorites for Sunday’s match. While Atalanta have two finals coming up, this match basically decides the fate of Roma’s season. The Giallorossi are a resilient bunch and they won’t just keel over after Thursday’s loss.

The Atalanta vs Roma odds list Roma as +265 underdogs and they last won in Bergamo in 2021. In what could be a close match, Roma +0.5 also sits at -120 odds. A draw (+255) still keeps some slim Champions League hope alive for Roma but they wouldn’t be happy with one.

It will be interesting to see how much Gasperini rotates his squad with the Coppa Italia Final coming up. Also, bettors should check for updates on whether Dybala is fit to play. He’s scored 13 goals and provided nine assists in Serie A this season and Roma are a much better team when he’s available. In any case, both over and under 2.5 goals are priced at -110 odds for a key Serie A matchup.
