Partenopei Aim to Stop the Bleeding

Osimhen and Politano Suspended for Napoli

Last week was one of the worst in recent memory for Napoli. They lost 4-0 at Frosinone in the Coppa Italia round of 16 and fell 2-0 in a Serie A Derby del Sole at Roma. Now, Napoli host Monza in Serie A on Friday as the Partenopei look to get back on track.

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

Due to suspensions, Walter Mazzarri’s Napoli will be without Victor Osimhen and Matteo Politano. Monza have established themselves as a mid-table Serie A club after earning their first promotion in 2022 but they’re in danger of suffering a third straight Serie A defeat here.

With both sides looking to regain some form, we’ll preview the Napoli vs Monza odds.

NAP Napoli vs Monza MON

Day/Time:
Location: Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, Naples, Italy

Head-to-Head

The home team won each match in last season’s Serie A fixtures between Napoli and Monza. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored twice as Napoli defeated Monza 4-0 in August 2022. By the time the reverse fixture rolled around, Napoli already managed to clinch their first Serie A title in 33 years. Monza managed to pick up a 2-0 win over the champions in May. This is just the third opportunity to bet on the Napoli vs Monza odds in Serie A.

Napoli’s Brutal Week

Walter Mazzarri named a squad composed of mostly reserves for last week’s Coppa Italia match vs Frosinone. The match was scoreless midway through the second half, but Frosinone exploded for four goals over the next 30 minutes. It was one of the most embarrassing home losses the Partenopei have suffered in recent memory. Things got worse for Napoli last weekend when they went to the Stadio Olimpico to take on Roma.

Matteo Politano got sent off in the second half for kicking Roma’s Nicola Zalewski after Zalewski impeded his progress. Lorenzo Pellegrini put Roma ahead in the 76th minute, and Victor Osimhen earned his second yellow card for Napoli just ten minutes later. Romelu Lukaku doubled Roma’s lead vs a nine-man Napoli side and the match finished 2-0 to the hosts. As things stand, defending champions Napoli are 17 points behind leaders Inter Milan and four points outside of the Serie A top four. They’ve been a disappointing pick for soccer betting in recent weeks.

After a lot of transfer speculation, Osimhen signed a new contract at Napoli, which will keep him at the club until 2026. The 2022-23 Golden Boot winner will miss Friday’s match, and he leads Napoli with seven Serie A goals this season. Politano will also be out for this one, and he’s been an invaluable member of the Napoli front line.

Expect Mazzarri to hand Giacomo Raspadori or Giovanni Simeone a start up top. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will also have a lot of offensive responsibility with Osimhen and Politano out. Note that Natan, Stanislav Lobotka and Mathias Olivera are all out injured for this one.

Monza Lacking Creativity

Monza lost to Fiorentina in disappointing fashion last Friday. Michele Di Gregorio, Monza’s keeper, played a pass directly in the path of Fiorentina striker Lucas Beltran in the seventh minute. The ball hit Beltran’s foot and went into the back of the net for the game’s only goal. Fiorentina very nearly doubled their lead a couple of minutes later, but Monza’s Danilo D’Ambrosio made an incredible goal-line block on Jonathan Ikone.

In their last two Serie A 2023-2024 games, Monza have lost and failed to score a goal. They’ve struggled vs the big sides this season, as all of their wins have come vs bottom-half opposition. Monza are currently 0-3-6 vs current top half teams and are just 2-2-4 away from home this season. They’ve scored just three goals in their last five games but are eight points outside of the relegation zone right now.

Andrea Colpani has scored six of Monza’s 16 Serie A goals this season, but he hasn’t gotten on the scoresheet in over a month. In Matteo Pessina and Roberto Gagliardini, Monza do have two experienced and industrious midfielders. The Lombardy side are lacking a bit in the creativity department, though. Just Gianluca Caprari is currently on Monza’s injury list.

Match Analysis & Odds

With Monza struggling to score goals, it’s no surprise that Friday’s Napoli vs Monza odds price the Partenopei as -155 favorites. Napoli may be missing two of their best players, but they have reserves who will be looking to prove a point here. Walter Mazzarri’s side will also be eager to get three points after a horrific week.

Monza are going for their first-ever road win over Napoli here, but the visitors are +475 underdogs. Bettors can take Napoli -1 at +120 odds, while Monza -1 comes in at -140. However, Monza did fall 4-0 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona last season as Kvara scored twice for Napoli. Kvara, one of the best dribblers in the league, should cause problems for Monza on Friday. Still, Monza do typically play five at the back vs the league’s top sides to try to neutralize their threats.

A draw is listed at +275 odds for this one, and anything less than three points here for the Partenopei will not cut it. Even though two of Napoli’s biggest offensive threats are out for this match, over 2.5 goals show -120 odds. Napoli will aim for a shutout here, but they haven’t kept one in any of their last six Serie A games.
