Serie A: Lazio vs Roma Betting News & Odds

First Derby della Capitale of 2023-24

Bitter Rivals Meet in Serie A

In one of the fiercest rivalries in Italian football, Lazio take on Roma in the Derby della Capitale on Sunday. The Rome clubs will both be vying for Champions League places this season but Lazio have finished above Roma in each of the last four seasons. Jose Mourinho’s Roma started the season quite slowly but have won four of their last five Serie A games. Meanwhile, Lazio have won three of their last four and defeated Feyenoord in the Champions League on Tuesday. We’ll cover the Lazio vs Roma betting news and odds ahead of one of the best Serie A games this week.

Lazio vs Roma Head-to-Head:

Lazio won both meetings of the Derby della Capitale last season. Most recently, Mattia Zaccagni scored the game’s only goal vs. a ten-man Roma back in March to give Lazio the win. Felipe Anderson scored the match-winner in the reverse fixture for Lazio. The Biancocelesti have only lost three of their last 10 games vs. Roma and hold a 5-2-3 record during that time.

Lazio Grab Important Midweek Victory

Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio got an incredibly important 1-0 win over Feyenoord in the Champions League on Tuesday. Feyenoord certainly had the better spells of possession and some excellent chances but Lazio managed to keep a clean sheet. Ivan Provedel made some important saves in the match and Ciro Immobile rounded the Feyenoord keeper to score the game’s only goal.

Some key Lazio vs Roma betting news is that the Biancocelesti’s Luis Alberto and Mattia Zaccagni picked up injuries in that match. It’s not immediately clear how severe they are but Sarri admitted to being concerned about their status for Sunday’s derby match. With Lazio’s midweek win, though, they’re now in second place in UCL Group E with crucial matches vs. Celtic and Atletico Madrid remaining.

Last Friday, Lazio fell 1-0 to Bologna in Serie A and have had some trouble scoring goals over the past few weeks. They haven’t scored more than once in any of their last four matches, in all competitions. Most of their recent matches have been low-scoring, as just one of their last seven Serie A games has finished with three or more goals. Heading into Matchday 12, Lazio is in 10th place in the Italian Serie A standings, with just a 5-1-5 record.

Roma Limp into Derby

With coach Jose Mourinho serving the last game of a four-match European ban, Roma fell 2-0 to Slavia Prague on Thursday. Roma took a perfect 3-0 record into their midweek Europa League match but their performance was subpar. The Giallorossi weren’t great last Sunday either when they hosted Lecce at the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma won an early penalty on a Lecce handball but Romelu Lukaku’s tame effort was saved. Lecce scored a shock go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute. Substitute striker Sardar Azmoun equalized for Roma in the first minute of second half stoppage time. A few minutes later, Lukaku redeemed himself by scoring a dramatic winner. Lukaku has been one of the most surprising Serie A players this season, with six goals.

Notably, Roma have won four of their last five Serie A matches but they’re dealing with some key injuries this weekend. Chris Smalling has missed the last two months with a hamstring issue and fellow defender Leonardo Spinazzola has missed the last few weeks. Spinazzola could return on Sunday, though. Meanwhile, Marash Kumbulla, Lorenzo Pellegrini, and Tammy Abraham are also out.

Match Analysis & Odds

This is technically a home game for Lazio even though they share a stadium with Roma. That means Lazio fans will receive the bulk of the tickets for this one. Lazio vs Roma betting news often notes that the Biancocelesti are unbeaten in “home” matches vs. Roma since December 2016. Lazio have already lost five times in Serie A this season but this is a match they’re always up for.

Interestingly enough, Lazio are underdogs for this Derby della Capitale even though they’ve got a two-day rest advantage on Roma. Roma are +160 favorites, while Lazio come in at +190 moneyline odds. Any outcome here seems possible, as a draw is also priced at +210 odds.

This pick’em is expected to be one of the closest matches of the week. Lazio pk isn’t a terrible pick, at even odds and the Biancocelesti have only conceded once in their last three Serie A games. Roma pk sits at -120 odds as Paulo Dybala and Lukaku are healthy and available. In what’s expected to be a low-scoring match, under 2, 2.5 goals show -125 odds.
