Out of the Blue, Nick Saban Calls It Quits
Alabama’s Legendary Coach, Nick Saban Announces Shocking Retirement After 17 Historic Seasons

What a Career! 🤩
In a stunning piece of college football news, the legendary head coach of Alabama football, Nick Saban, has decided to call it a career and the Crimson Tide program may never be the same.
Goodbye to the Tide
Few in the annals of college football head coaches have carved a legacy like that of Nick Saban. The kid from Fairmont, West Virginia, grew up to be an icon at Alabama but even before he landed at Tuscaloosa, he had already captured a national championship at the school’s rival, LSU.
Insane Nick Saban stats:
– 7 BCS/CFP era titles (next highest for a coach is 3).
– His 7 titles also mark the most for any coach in CFB history; Bear Bryant is second with 6.
– 8 CFP appearances are the most of any school, let alone coach. Dabo Swinney and Clemson are the… pic.twitter.com/ZnAXAIZ17k— College Football Report (@CFBRep) January 10, 2024
During his illustrious tenure at Alabama beginning in 2007, Saban would go on to claim six national titles, tying him with Paul “Bear” Bryant for the most in the school’s storied history, as well as 11 SEC crowns. Alabama’s impressive stature as a college football powerhouse was an important tool in recruiting elite high school athletes but it was Saban’s charm and charisma that captivated an equally important party – their parents.

“The University of Alabama has been a very special place to Terry and me,” Saban said. “We have enjoyed every minute of our 17 years being the head coach at Alabama as well as becoming a part of the Tuscaloosa community. It is not just about how many games we won and lost, but it’s about the legacy and how we went about it. We always tried to do it the right way.
The goal was always to help players create more value for their future, be the best player they could be, and be more successful in life because they were part of the program. Hopefully, we have done that, and we will always consider Alabama our home.”
Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne also released a statement that said, “Simply put, Nick Saban is one of the greatest coaches of all time, in any sport, and The University of Alabama is fortunate to have had him leading our football program for the past 17 seasons.”
“Throughout his career as a head coach, his teams have won seven national championships, 11 conference championships, and 312 games, and he’s developed an NCAA-record 49 NFL first-round draft picks and, most importantly, hundreds of college graduates. He is the consummate coach, mentor, and leader, and his impact is felt far beyond the football field.”
Nick Saban was asked a question after practice once.
His response was 70 seconds of gold on what it takes to be successful in life.

College football rumors are circulating about Saban’s successor with some familiar names like Saban’s disciple and Texas Longhorns coach, Steve Sarkisian, Clemson’s Dabo Swinney, or 37-year-old Oregon coach, Dan Lanning, to name but a few.
Certainly, there will be no dearth of candidates for the big chair at the Capstone but one thing we know for sure, college football games at Bryant-Denny Stadium will never quite be the same.
