Juventus’ Paul Pogba Tests Positive for Testosterone, Up to 4 Years Suspension

Pogba Not Participating, Sitting on the Juventus Bench

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has been revealed to have tested positive for testosterone, according to Italy’s anti-doping agency’s announcement on Monday.

The test was conducted following Juventus’ match against Udinese on August 20th. Despite not participating in the Serie A match, Pogba was present on the Juventus bench during the game so it’s still bad that Paul Pogba tests positive under those circumstances.

Immediate Suspension

Nado Italia, the anti-doping agency, has provisionally suspended Pogba with immediate effect. Depending on the outcome of a trial and further testing of a backup “B” sample, he could face a suspension of up to four years.

This development adds to a series of challenges for Pogba, who has been grappling with injuries since his return to Juventus from Manchester United over a year ago. He was unable to participate in France’s journey to the World Cup final last year due to a knee injury.

Ongoing Investigation on Allegations of Extortion

While Paul Pogba tests positive for testosterone, an ongoing police investigation in France is examining allegations of extortion involving Pogba, including accusations against his older brother, Mathias, who has denied any wrongdoing.

For Juventus, this is yet another setback following a season marked by inquiries into false accounting and irregular salary payment reporting, besides the cut back in Serie A standings. These legal matters led to UEFA removing the Turin club from European competition for the current season.

As of now, neither Pogba nor Juventus has issued an immediate statement regarding this development.
