Italian Top Flight Match Schedule Released
The 2023-2024 Serie A Fixtures schedule is out, so we know the dates of the major derbies in Serie A. The Italian top flight has a bunch of classic matches, like the Derby d’Italia, Derby della Madonnina and Derby della Capitale. We’ll take a look at some of the biggest matches of the season and major dates fans and bettors should be aware of. Napoli kick off their title defense on August 19th at Serie A new boys Frosinone.
Major Dates
The Serie A season kicks off on Saturday, August 19th, and runs until Sunday, May 26th. Italy’s Serie A plays a 38-game schedule, like the English Premier League and Spanish La Liga.
Most matches will be played on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the season. Friday nights and Monday nights are other popular times for matches. Fixtures are subject to being rescheduled depending on European competitions like the Coppa Italia, Champions League, Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League.
There will be three international breaks before the new year. The first one will run from September 4th to 12th. There will be one per month from then on until November. The October break is from the 9th to 17th and the November one goes from the 13th to the 21st.
On the 2023-2024 Serie A fixtures schedule, there will be just one 2024 international break. It will run from March 18th to 26th.
Unlike La Liga, Serie A will not have a Winter break this season. So, expect a full set of fixtures a couple of days before Christmas and just before the new year.
The first big matches of the season come on Matchday 3. AS Roma host AC Milan on September 1st, while defending champions Napoli take on Lazio one day later. If the title race drags on until the season’s final stages, note that no teams from last season’s top four meet on the final matchday.
In 2022-23, Napoli won the title with a handful of games to spare, but Inter Milan are +200 favorites to win the title this season. Note that the Serie A Matchday 1 odds are already out and it’s worth looking at some of the major teams’ matches.
First Matchday Odds
In the first match of the new season, Napoli are -230 road favorites at Frosinone, who won Serie B last season. If Napoli can hold on to Khvicha Kharatskhelia and Victor Osimhen, they will be in the title conversation again. Osimhen led the Serie A stats last season, with 26 goals.
Following Frosinone vs. Napoli, Inter Milan host fellow Lombardy club Monza and the Nerazzurri are -265 favorites. In their first-ever Serie A campaign, Monza finished in 12th and are +600 underdogs here.
Salernitana’s Serie A results towards the end of last season were quite impressive but that doesn’t stop them from being one-goal underdogs at AS Roma. Jose Mourinho’s Giallorossi are early -215 favorites for their opening match.
Juventus head on the road to Udinese to open up the season. Following a frustrating ten-point deduction that saw them finish seventh last season, Juve are -120 favorites.
Lazio open up their campaign at Lecce after a second-place finish in 2022-23. Lazio are favorites but have less than a 50 percent implied chance of victory. The Biancocelesti, led by longtime striker Ciro Immobile, stand at +115 moneyline odds.
AC Milan face a tough test at 2022-23’s ninth-placed team Bologna on Monday, August 21st. The Rossoneri are +105 road favorites here.
Derby Matches
Serie A is full of rivalry matches and the first big one of the season is Milan’s Derby della Madonnina. AC Milan and Inter face off at the San Siro on September 16th and April 21st, 2024. These teams played five times last season, in all competitions, and Inter won four of the head-to-head matchups.
Not too long after, Juventus host Turin rivals Torino at the Allianz Stadium on October 8th. Juventus go to the Stadio Olimpico on April 14th for the reverse fixture. Torino last defeated Juventus in 2015.
One of the most fiery derbies in Italian soccer is the Derby della Capitale between Roman clubs Lazio and Roma. They’ll meet on November 12th and April 4th on their 2023-2024 Serie A fixtures Schedule. Lazio won both meetings last season, 1-0.
The biggest national derby in Italy is the aptly-named Derby d’Italia between Inter Milan and Juventus. Inter knocked Juve out of the Coppa Italia last season but only won one of the four derbies.
