2023-2024 Ligue 1 Betting Predictions Upcoming Season

Marseille, Lens Could be Biggest Threats to PSG

PSG Retool Ahead of New Season

PSG may have won the Ligue 1 title in 2022-23 but they’re not content to rest on their laurels. They’ve been, by far, the most active team in the transfer market so far this Summer. While Lionel Messi left for MLS, five players have already arrived at the Parc des Princes. Many 2023-2024 Ligue 1 betting predictions choose PSG as the most likely winner. However, Ligue 1 has some excellent squads and we’ll preview the outright odds with the season fast approaching.

Top Dog

There was going to be only one team at the top of the odds board. Paris Saint-Germain, who topped the Ligue 1 table in 2022-23, are -350 favorites to win a third straight title. Last season, they finished just one point ahead of second-placed Lens.

With PSG not content to rest on their laurels, there has been a fair amount of turnover at the club this Summer. Christophe Galtier is out as head coach after just one season. Plus, Ballon d’Or favorite Lionel Messi is on his way to Inter Miami in MLS.

PSG replaced Galtier with former Spain national team coach Luis Enrique. Enrique will have a bunch of options at his disposal, as five players have arrived at the club.

Highly rated defender Milan Skriniar has joined from Inter Milan and Spanish international winger Marco Asensio made the switch from Real Madrid. Enrique can pair Skriniar with Lucas Hernandez in defense, who just joined the club from Bayern Munich.

The Parisians have also added some young talents, like Lee Kang-in from Mallorca and Manuel Ugarte from Sporting. Of course, PSG have Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in attacking areas and have the potential to be one of the best clubs in the world this season. With 29 goals, Mbappe won his fifth straight France Ligue 1 Golden Boot in 2022-23.

Champions League Clubs

RC Lens and Marseille finished in second and third in Ligue 1 in the 2022-23 season. Lens were the biggest challengers to PSG’s throne last season as they finished just one point off the pace. Many 2023-2024 Ligue 1 betting predictions imply they could be one of the biggest threats to PSG once again.

Lens will have to juggle their domestic league with the Champions League for the first time in a while but sit at +1600 odds to win Ligue 1.

A lot of Lens’ success this season will hinge on if they’re able to keep their key players. Seko Fofana, Kevin Danso and Lois Openda are all wanted by some of the top clubs in Europe.

Fofana was also a key target for Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr before they signed Marcelo Brozovic. With nearly two months left in the transfer window a lot can change and Lens have already brought in some new names.

They wasted no time signing midfielder Andy Diouf from FC Basel in Switzerland. Along with Diouf, Franck Haise has brought in Morgan Guilavogui, Neil El Aynaoui, Stijn Spierings and Angelo Fulgini on a permanent basis. While Lens are through to the UCL group stage, Marseille need to advance through the play-off round.

Marseille finished in third place in the Ligue 1 standings last season and are perennial Champions League contenders. Still, they haven’t won the league since 2010.

The status of 2022-23 leading scorer Alexis Sanchez is also up in the air. The Chilean, who found the net 14 times in Ligue 1, is yet to negotiate a contract extension for Marseille.

If the two parties can’t reach a deal, expect Marseille to dip into the transfer market to find a new striker. This will be a transition year for Marseille either way, as coach Igor Tudor resigned at the end of the season. Marcelino will take over this season and his Marseille come in at +1200 odds to win the Ligue 1 title, ahead of Lens.

Other Potential Contenders

Monaco embarrassingly missed out on European competition altogether with a late season meltdown. The Monegasques lost their last three Ligue 1 matches of the season and finished in sixth place. Now, 2023-2024 Ligue 1 betting predictions list them as one of the top dark horses this season.

Only PSG scored more goals than Monaco last season and AS Monaco now sit at +2000 odds to win the league. Monaco’s new coach, after Philippe Clement’s departure, is Austrian Adi Hutter. He’ll inherit a dangerous attack, with players like Wissam Ben Yedder and Breel Embolo.

Lille are also listed at +2000 odds and a late season pushed helped them qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League. LOSC were the most recent Ligue 1 champions not named PSG and pulled it off in 2020-21. They’ve been quiet in the transfer market so far but have one of the league’s best strikers, Jonathan David.

Lyon have suffered from crippling inconsistency over the last few seasons. Just a few years removed from a Champions League semifinal appearance, OL have finished in eighth and seventh in the last two seasons. Regardless, Laurent Blanc’s side enter the season at +2500 odds to win Ligue 1 for an eighth time.

Stade Rennais snuck into the Europa League with four straight wins to close out the 2022-23 season. They had the third-best defense in the league last season and also scored the third-most goals.

They’re also not playing around in the transfer market, as they’ve added goal-scoring midfielders Ludovic Blas and Enzo Le Fee. They could also have a new number one keeper as Gauthier Gallon just joined from Troyes. Rennes are still +3300 longshots to win the league. Nice (+5000) are the only other team with shorter than +20000 odds.
