Where Is Cristiano Ronaldo Now? Update to June 2024
Euro 2024: Cristiano Ronaldo Back in the Spotlight with Portugal
At 39, and despite his stint in Saudi Arabia, five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo is back in action for Portugal. Under Roberto Martinez, Portugal kicked off their Euro 2024 campaign against the Czech Republic last Tuesday.
The last we saw of Ronaldo, he was leaving the Al-Thumama stadium in tears after Portugal’s quarter-final loss to Morocco in the 2022 World Cup. Known for his passion, Ronaldo’s tears were a heart-wrenching sight. Before the tournament, he had hinted to Piers Morgan that he might retire if he won the World Cup, the only major trophy missing from his collection.
Ronaldo didn’t get that fairytale ending, and it felt like a farewell from one of football’s greatest. Benched against Morocco and Switzerland, the former star seemed to be a shadow of his former self, overshadowing Portugal’s emerging talent.
His dramatic exit from Manchester United to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia and missing out on the Ballon d’Or nomination for the first time since 2003 added to the sense that his best days were behind him.
But CR7 is back, ready to lead Portugal again. Despite his age and playing in a lesser-known league, Ronaldo remains a key player for Portugal. Thanks to coach Roberto Martinez, who took over from Fernando Santos in January 2023, Ronaldo has another shot at glory. Martinez could have easily moved on, but he chose to bring back the legend. Portugal’s Euro 2024 journey began with their match against the Czech Republic in Leipzig on Tuesday, June 18.

Where Is Cristiano Ronaldo Now? Update to November 2023
Ronaldo and Other Superstars Struggle to Spark Saudi Soccer Spectacle
In the world of Saudi Pro League football, even the allure of global icons like Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t drawing the crowds. Despite a star-studded lineup including Neymar and Karim Benzema, the stadiums remain eerily empty. A stark example: a mere 696 fans watched Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq, while less than 800 attended other matches. Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr saw only a slightly higher turnout, far from filling the stands.
Ronaldo’s 400th Milestone in a Muted Arena
On a brighter note, Cristiano Ronaldo continues to make waves, recently scoring his 400th goal post-30 in a 2-0 win for Al-Nassr. Yet, the boost in Cristiano Ronaldo stats and this personal triumph come amid the larger challenge of boosting league excitement. While the Saudi Pro League has secured lucrative TV deals and seen a slight uptick in attendance, it’s still a far cry from the bustling, packed stadiums of more established football leagues. As Ronaldo and his teammates gear up for their next challenges, the league grapples with its struggle to fully capitalize on its galaxy of stars.
Earlier This 2023:
Cristiano Ronaldo’s records keep stacking up. The Portuguese international became the first men’s football player to make 200 international appearances. CR7 celebrated that milestone by scoring the winning goal in the 89th minute as Portugal beat Iceland 1-0 in a European Championship qualifier.
Ronaldo scored the only goal in the game on Tuesday against Iceland, who played with ten men after Willum Williamson was sent off with 10 minutes to go in the Euro 2024 qualifier.
Overtaking Kuwait forward Bader Al-Mutawa’s 196-cap record in March, the 38-year-old Ronaldo was honored by Guinness World Records before kickoff on Tuesday for reaching 200 games for Portugal almost 20 years after he made his debut for the national side.
And he was celebrating at the end of the match, too, after being on hand to score the later winner against Iceland from close range to keep Portugal on track for Euro 2024 qualification with the Portuguese team’s fourth win from four games in Group J. This goal added to Ronaldo stats, further solidifying his incredible record-breaking career.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s record padded his international goals on Tuesday by netting his 123rd for Portugal – making it another memorable night for the former Real Madrid and Manchester United star.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s record-breaking adventures have been ongoing since his time in Manchester. Here is a list of his other records that he has broke!

800 career goals
Ronaldo became the first player to score 800 top-level career goals during a Premier League encounter against Arsenal in November 2022.
Ronaldo’s club and country goal records continued in the same match as he went on to score the 801st goal in the exact match from the penalty spot, which turned out to be the match-winner.

He has made over half of his all-time appearances (101) for Real Madrid, 59 for United, and 23 for Juventus.

Most Champions League Wins (5)
Ronaldo is often known as Mr. Champions League, as he’s won the trophy more times than anyone else. He lifted his maiden Champions League trophy with Manchester United back in 2008. He then went on to win it four more times with Real Madrid.
These are just a handful of Cristiano Ronaldo records, and we can expect him to continue to break more as he has no intention of retiring. It’s safe to say we will never see someone as prolific as he has been in a long time.
