Greuther Furth Stats & History
SpVgg Greuther Furth was created as the soccer division of the gymnastics club Turnverein 1860 Furth in 1903. The Bavarian club won divisional championships in 1912, 1913, and 1914; it was briefly the largest sports club in Germany. The first major achievement in the Greuther Furth team stats is their German championship in 1914 over rivals FC Nurnberg.
The match was reportedly the longest completed match in German soccer history. In those days, championship matches were golden goals without any penalties. So after 154 minutes, Furth scored a dramatic winner to seal the German championship.
The rivalry between Greuther Furth and Nurnberg deepened as the latter defeated the former in the 1920 German championship. Allegedly, the rivalry became so strong that players from the teams slept in separate train cars on national team duty. Despite the loss, Furth continued to be one of the top teams in the country in the 1920s. They closed out the decade with two more titles in the Furth team stats, in 1926 and 1929.

Greuther Furth Team Records
Without a major trophy, Furth have struggled to reach the same heights. After WWII, Furth were frequently in the top tier but were not one of the original Bundesliga clubs. They were, however, one of the original members of the 2. Bundesliga in 1974. However, they were relegated after a few seasons in the league.
Greuther Furth slipped even further, as they played in the fourth tier for three seasons in the late 80s. They were a third-division club for most of the 90s and finally got back to the 2. Bundesliga in 1997. Nearly 100 years after their first German championship, Furth reached the Bundesliga in 2012. Their stay lasted just one season and they spent the rest of the 2010s in the 2. Bundesliga.
Furth was most recently promoted in 2021 but finished in last place in the Bundesliga in the 2021-22 season. They underperformed the Bundesliga odds and conceded a league-worst 82 goals.
