BetMGM and X to Join Forces in Online Sports Gambling Market

X and MGM Partnership: X to Incorporate Online Gambling Stats

Twitter, Twitter… You Gotta be Kidding! Hey, if it Plays it Pays!

X, formerly known as Twitter, may soon be an avenue through which users can bet. According to a report from Fortune on Friday, the social media giant is partnering with BetMGM to “bring sports gambling stats” to its platform. Although plans are for the X and MGM partnership are still being finalized, the aim is to provide users with a direct link to BetMGM, allowing them to place bets.

It is still unknown when these changes could occur, however, the timing of this report is likely no coincidence. The next few months are among the busiest on the sports calendar, with the Super Bowl less than two weeks away. Then there’s the NCAA men’s and women’s tournaments in March, which’ll lead into the final weeks of the NBA and NHL regular seasons and Opening Day for MLB.

Live events are where X separates itself from competitors, and events such as the Super Bowl and March Madness are unparalled when it comes to real-time traffic. Super Bowl XLIX between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks in 2015 generated a record-breaking 28.4 million tweets, for instance.

Elon Feeling the Heat

However, the site has seen a steep decline in revenue since being purchased by Elon Musk in 2022 and could benefit from dipping its toes into a bustling industry such as online sports betting. That’s despite a reported 556 million monthly active users in 2023, including 6.1 billion visits per month.

Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 11 between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers is expected to draw over 100 million viewers in the U.S. alone, possibly matching — or even surpassing — last year’s record total of over 115 million. Judging by last year, more than 50 million Americans will bet on the big game. A majority of those wagers will come in the form of live prop bets placed after kickoff.

This X and MGM partnership would conceivably give both parties access to significantly more users than they already reach. Surely, that is one of the biggest incentives at play.

While a segment of that audience may oppose the introduction of more betting content, it’s unlikely to create too much of a stir because of increased legalization throughout the U.S. As it is, consumers continue to be flooded with advertisements regarding the subject.

This Thing is Going to Be Huge!

Bet MGM is the third-largest online betting site in the country by market share, behind FanDuel and DraftKings. It is slated to be one of the licensed operators in North Carolina when the state introduces onling sports gambling on March 11, further strengthening Bet MGM’s presence in the industry. The sports betting site plans to partner with Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Twenty-nine states and the District of Columbia already offer mobile sports betting. According to the American Gaming Association, five more states are currently in the state of active legislation: Georgia, Hawaii, Mississippi, Missouri and Oklahoma.

Stay tuned for more updates on the X and MGM partnership.
