Overview of the Florida Atlantic Owls Standings

Last-Season Standings

The Florida Atlantic basketball team had a decent 2021-2022 season, finishing with a 13-15 overall record and a 6-12 conference record. While they didn’t make a big impact in the Florida Atlantic Standings, the team did have some standout performances throughout the season.

One of the top players on the team was senior guard Michael Forrest, who led the team in scoring with an average of 16.2 points per game. Forrest was also a strong defender, averaging 1.5 steals per game. Another key player for the Owls was sophomore guard Kenan Blackshear, who averaged 11.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.

Despite some strong individual performances, the team struggled with consistency throughout the season. They had some big wins, including a 78-58 victory over Florida Gulf Coast in February, but also suffered some tough losses, including a 62-60 defeat to North Texas in January.

Overall, the Owls showed progress throughout the season and had some promising moments. Head coach Dusty May will look to build on this progress next season and continue to improve the team’s performance in the Florida Atlantic Standings. With some talented players returning, including Forrest and Blackshear, the future looks bright for the Florida Atlantic basketball team.

Florida Atlantic Owls Basketball History

The Florida Atlantic Owls are a Division I team based in Boca Raton, Fla. Coached by Dusty May, Florida Atlantic is a member of Conference USA.

The Owls’ first season of competition was 1988-89, and they were a Division II independent until 1993. At that point, the Owls joined the Trans America Athletic Conference (later remained the Atlantic Sun).

In 1996-97, Florida Atlantic finished 16-11 under Kevin Billerman to score its first winning season at Division I. The success didn’t last, though. The Owls won only 20 games combined over the next four seasons. Billerman was replaced during that period by former NBA forward Sidney Green.

In 2001-02, Green’s third season at the helm, the Owls went 19-12 and won their first Atlantic Sun Tournament title. In doing so, the Owls earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, where they lost in the opening round to second-seeded Alabama, 86-78.

The Owls didn’t return to the postseason until 2011 when they were a member of the Sun Belt Conference. At that point, their coach was Mike Jarvis, who had been at Boston University, George Washington and, most recently, St. John’s. Jarvis guided the Owls to a program-record 21 wins and the Sun Belt regular season title.

But because they lost in the conference quarterfinals, the Owls had to settle for a National Invitational Tournament bid. They wound up losing in the first round to Miami.

May, a former Florida assistant, succeeded former NBA guard and Detroit Pistons head coach Michael Curry in 2018-19.

Florida Atlantic’s other postseason appearances came in the 2019 CollegeInsider.com Tournament and 2022 College Basketball Invitational.

The Owls were ranked only fifth in the 2022-23 C-USA preseason poll. However, determined to overcome those odds, they started 16-1 and cracked the Associated Press Top 25 poll for the first time in program history. They debuted at aNo. 24 on Jan. 16, 2023.
