Leverkusen vs Wolfsburg Head-to-Head

Bayer Leverkusen are unbeaten in their last four matches vs. Wolfsburg on the Bundesliga schedule. In October, both Leverkusen wingbacks got on the scoresheet in their 2-1 victory over Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena. Strangely, Bayer Leverkusen haven’t won any of their last seven home games vs. Wolfsburg, though. During that time, Bayer are 0-3-4 in this fixture at the BayArena.

Leverkusen Extend Unbeaten Run

Bayer Leverkusen flirted with their first loss of the season on Thursday, but a late comeback extended their unbeaten streak to 35 games. Leverkusen fell behind 2-0 in the first half in Azerbaijan at Qarabag in the first leg of the round of 16. Xabi Alonso made eight changes from the team that beat Koln 2-0 last weekend, and Leverkusen seemed to underestimate their opponent.

Alonso made some substitutions in the second half that turned the tide of the game. Florian Wirtz, who came on in the 58th minute, pounced on an errant pass and chipped the keeper to get a goal back. Striker Patrik Schick came on in the 80th minute and he scored the game-tying header in stoppage time. The fact that Leverkusen can perform nowhere near their best and still get a result is a mark of an excellent team.

Exequiel Palacios is also back after missing five Bundesliga matches, but Robert Andrich has filled in superbly in midfield. Unfortunately, Jeremie Frimpong and Victor Boniface, who have a combined 31 goal contributions in the Bundesliga, are out for this match. Boniface ranks joint-eighth in the Bundesliga stats, with ten goals, but could be out until April. Frimpong is serving a one game suspension but the Leverkusen vs Wolfsburg odds still price the hosts as -305 favorites.

Wolfsburg Can’t Buy a Win

Wolfsburg conceded three times vs. Stuttgart on Saturday and fell for the second time in four matches. Niko Kovac’s Wolfsburg have struggled recently and they’re still looking for their first win of 2024. The 3-2 loss marked the first time since December Die Wolfe conceded three goals. Even though they’ve scored twice in three of their last five matches, none of those games have finished with a win.

At the moment, Wolfsburg are eight points outside of the relegation playoff spot but their form is highly concerning. They have picked up just two wins from their last 15 Bundesliga fixtures and continue to free fall down the table. They enter the weekend in 13th place of 18 teams, and there are still ten games remaining. Jonas Wind leads Wolfsburg this season, with nine goals, but he hasn’t scored in any of his last 12 appearances.

Joakim Maehle, who scored a brilliant goal vs. Stuttgart, is out for this one due to a suspension. Rogerio could replace him at left back in the starting XI on Sunday but he is dealing with a hip injury. Midfielder Mattias Svanberg is also out for this one with an ankle injury. Although Wolfsburg’s form has left a lot to desire, they’ve scored in nine of their last 10 games.

Leverkusen vs Wolfsburg Match Analysis & Odds

Bayer Leverkusen are 1.5-goal favorites for Sunday’s match as they’re expected to remain unbeaten here. Alonso will play the best possible XI he can here, unlike Thursday’s match. Expect Wirtz and Granit Xhaka to feature prominently here. The Leverkusen vs Wolfsburg odds price the Bundesliga leaders as -305 favorites to get their first home win over Die Wolfe since 2016.

Wolfsburg could easily slip to nine games without a win in this one. Niko Kovac’s side sits at +700 odds to come away with a win, and they have scored two goals in three of their last five Bundesliga matches. Wolfsburg +1.5 is priced at -110 odds, as is Bayer Leverkusen -1.5.

A draw (+460) would keep Leverkusen’s unbeaten record intact but it could open up the door to Bayern Munich getting back in the title race. As things stand, Leverkusen are -2000 favorites to win the Bundesliga title. Over three goals show -115 odds, as Leverkusen have scored twice in each of their last seven games overall.
