DFB-Pokal Finals Odds: RB Leipzig vs Eintracht Frankfurt Preview

Leipzig Go For Back-to-Back DFB-Pokal Trophies

Route to Europa League for Frankfurt

RB Leipzig closed out the Bundesliga season with five straight wins, and they’ve won their last six matches in all competitions. Marco Rose’s side are in great form heading into Saturday’s DFB-Pokal final vs. Eintracht Frankfurt. Leipzig won 2022’s DFB-Pokal final over SC Freiburg and are going for back-to-back titles. It would mark just the second major trophy in club history. However, this game is crucial for Frankfurt, as they will qualify for the Europa League with a win. Leipzig will play in next season’s Champions League regardless. With that in mind, we’ll look at the DFB-Pokal finals odds and their implications for European tournaments.

Last September, Frankfurt thrashed Leipzig 4-0 and didn’t even concede a shot on target. The previous four head-to-head matchups finished in draws. Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig have met once on their DFB-Pokal schedulesDFB-Pokal schedules before. Frankfurt knocked out Leipzig in the 2020 round of 16 with a 3-1 win at Deutsche Bank Park.

RB Leipzig Close Out Season In Style

  • Semifinal Result: 5-1 W vs. SC Freiburg
  • Key Absences: G Peter Gulasci (Out), D Josko Gvardiol (Suspended)

RB Leipzig have gone through their fair share of ups and downs this season. Leipzig sacked coach Domenico Tedesco in September following an embarrassing 4-1 Champions League defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk. In their previous match, they also lost 4-0 to Eintracht Frankfurt and started the Bundesliga season with just a 1-2-2 record. They turned things around under Marco Rose but still lost 8-1 to Manchester City in the UCL round of 16. Key forward Christopher Nkunku dealt with his fair share of injury problems during the season, and it looked like Leipzig would be on the Champions League bubble.

Then, Leipzig won seven of their last eight Bundesliga matches to finish just five points behind champions Bayern Munich. Leipzig have also been excellent in this season’s DFB-Pokal. They knocked out some heavy hitters in SC Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund. RB Leipzig have outscored their opponents 22-2 in the DFB-Pokal this season. While Nkunku leads Leipzig with 22 goals this season, striker Timo Werner has stood out in the DFB-Pokal.

He has scored five goals in just four starts and could play a big part here, along with Nkunku. This is expected to be Nkunku’s last match with RB Leipzig, as he’s set to join Chelsea in the Summer. He got on the scoresheet three times in his final two Bundesliga matches of the seasonBundesliga matches of the season, he got on the scoresheet three times. Goalkeeper Peter Gulasci has missed most of the season with a long-term injury, but Leipzig will certainly miss Josko Gvardiol on Saturday. The Croatian international is suspended, but the odds of the DFB-Pokal Finals still price Leipzig as favorites.

Dangerous Frankfurt Go For Glory

  • Semifinal Result: 3-2 W vs. Stuttgart
  • Key Absences: M Sebastian Rode (Questionable), F Lucas Alario (Doubtful)

Let’s not forget that Eintracht Frankfurt won last year’s UEFA Europa League and made it to the Champions League round of 16 this season. Although they finished just seventh in the Bundesliga standings, they can compete with almost anyone. Frankfurt are in the DFB-Pokal final for the third time in the last seven seasons, and last won the competition in 2018. This season, Randal Kolo Muani has been Frankfurt’s most prominent standout performer.

The French international leads the DFB-Pokal with six goals and has registered 37 goal contributions across all competitions. Mario Gotze also leads this season’s DFB-Pokal with five assists. Meanwhile, Japanese attacking midfielder Daichi Kamada scored 16 goals and provided six assists in all competitions. While Frankfurt have been inconsistent in 2022-23, they’re nothing if not a dangerous team to play against.

Only three teams scored more goals than Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga this season. Sure, conceding over 1.5 goals per game is a concern, but the beauty of the DFB-Pokal is that anything can happen in a single match. Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp has also managed to keep three clean sheets in the DFB-Pokal. Entering this match, though, Frankfurt have kept just one clean sheet in their last nine.

Match Analysis and Odds

If RB Leipzig win this match, Eintracht Frankfurt will qualify for next season’s UEFA Europa Conference League. However, Frankfurt can upgrade to the Europa League with a win as the DFB-Pokal champion advances to the group stage. That should add a lot of motivation on the underdog side here. Frankfurt +½ comes in at +110 odds, and Eintracht are also +335 moneyline underdogs to win in 90 minutes. The DFB-Pokal finals odds also list Frankfurt at +220 odds to win the trophy in Berlin.

This has been a draw-heavy fixture recently, but a draw displays relatively long odds. A 90-minute draw shows +325 odds. Defending champions RB, Leipzig enter Saturday as -140 ATS and moneyline favorites. They’re also -280 favorites to win back-to-back DFB-Pokal titles. Leipzig have a wealth of attacking options outside of Nkunku and Werner. All of Dominik Szoboszlai, Dani Olmo, Emil Forsberg, and Andre Silva have also registered over 10 goal contributions this season.

Still, under three goals are priced at -125 odds for what could be an action packed final. Both teams to score sits at -150 odds as RB Leipzig and Frankfurt are expected to get on the scoresheet. Both teams have been pouring in goals recently. Eintracht Frankfurt have averaged 2.2 goals in their last five matches, while Leipzig have put in three per game in the same span. With two of the Bundesliga’s best attacking players on display, in Nkunku and Kolo Muani, this should be an excellent match.
