CFL Week 7 Odds Preview: The Gap Widens

Contenders Look to Separate From “Pretenders”

Top Three Contenders Favored Widely by Odds

Despite a colossal upset in Week 6, the CFL Week 7 odds move towards even larger spreads for the top contenders. Winnipeg, BC, and Toronto are all favored by at least a touchdown. Both Winnipeg and BC are favored by 10+ points. But Ottawa did prove last week that no team is untouchable and even the Argonauts, the only unbeaten team, could suffer defeat.

CFL Week 6 Review: Lots of Scoring

Last week was headlined by a mind-boggling upset. The Redblacks overcame a 19-point fourth-quarter deficit to topple the Blue Bombers. It was the type of win that could signal the turning point for two franchises. But that’s not the main thing on the betting lines as all four Week 6 games went over the totals.

In fact, the fewest points a team scored last week was 27 by Montreal. This week felt like an overcorrection to Week 5, which was primarily dominated by defenses. And while Toronto and Hamilton did win and cover as favorites, Winnipeg and Saskatchewan fell.

Chad Kelly put together his best game as the starting quarterback for Toronto as he threw for 351 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. The undefeated Argonauts are now just beside Winnipeg as far as the Grey Cup odds and another big win this week could just move them ahead.

🏈 Edmonton Elks vs Winnipeg Blue Bombers 🏈

Date & Time:
Record: Elks (0-6)/Blue Bombers (4-2)
Location: IG Field, Winnipeg
Streaming: CFL+, CBS Sports Network

What does Winnipeg get after its epic meltdown in Ottawa? The widest point spread as a favorite as it hosts the winless Elks with 15.5 points to cover. Edmonton remains a hapless team and Winnipeg could take out its frustrations by blowing it out at home. Winnipeg has covered in five of its last six home games against Edmonton. So expect this to be the most lopsided CFL score.

🏈 Toronto Argonauts vs Hamilton Tiger-Cats 🏈

Date & Time:
Record: Argonauts (4-0)/Tiger-Cats (2-3)
Location: Tim Hortons Field, Hamilton

Hamilton put up 37 points to lead all teams last week. But the oddsmakers are unconvinced. They have Hamilton as 7.5-point underdogs against the visiting Argonauts per the CFL week 7 odds. The Argos are 4-1 against the Tiger-Cats in both the moneyline and spread in their last five meetings. Considering both teams’ offensive explosions, the total of 49 here is the week’s highest.

🏈 Saskatchewan Roughriders vs BC Lions 🏈

Date & Time:
Record: Roughriders (3-2)/Lions (4-1)
Location: BC Place, Vancouver

The Lions come off a bye and take on the Roughriders as the biggest favorites they’ve been this 2023. Rick Campbell’s team is 3-2 coming off a bye since 2021. It’s won and covered five straight home games but Saskatchewan has flourished playing in Vancouver. The Roughriders have won five straight games here. The CFL week 7 odds have a total of 45.5 and it could be a lot as four of Saskatchewan’s last five road games have gone below its totals.

🏈 Ottawa Redblacks vs Calgary Stampeders 🏈

Date & Time:
Record: Redblacks (2-3)/Stampeders (2-3)
Location: McMahon Stadium, Calgary

With a total of 44.5, the Redblacks-Stampeders game could be the lowest-scoring this week. Calgary has struggled offensively but its defense remains top-tier, hence why five of its last seven games have gone under the totals. As for Ottawa, it’s a similar trend with five of its last six games trending the same way. The Redblacks look to continue its momentum as it looks to upset the CFL schedule with another underdog (+4.5) win here.
