We can bet on anything these days, so a few dollars in the entertainment industry is the next step in prop wagering. On the heels of the Barbie Movie eclipsing one billion dollars worldwide, the next step is to start speculating which movie will be the next massive hit from the Mattel toy arsenal. The company has a history of movie success, from 1987’s Masters of the Universe to the numerous American Girl Doll films in the early to mid-2000s, Mattel’s toy movies could push the 78-year company to the level that Hasbro has become with the Transformers series. Let’s review a few movies that could cash some tickets for movie bettors.
‘Hot Wheels’ and ‘Polly Pockets’ Next In Line?
Let’s go over the opening odds for the next toy movie to be released after Barbie. There are nine toys listed as possible choices; no there aren’t any best horror film odds yet, as we’re asked many times over. This is all about the toys.
As the headline mentioned, ‘Hot Wheels’ and ‘Polly Pockets’ are the co-favorite at +250, with ‘American Girl’ and ‘Wishbone’ (+500) right behind them. ‘Barney,’ please no, and Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots’ are +600. ‘Thomas and Friends’ is +700, followed by ‘Uno’ (+1500) and ‘Magic 8 Ball’ (+1600).
We can see where the last two could be great horror films if the company chooses to go in that direction. After the success of another installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, there is undoubtedly an appetite for the JJ Abrams film, but only recently has the company felt the story was suitable for maximum success.
Various outlets have stated that the movies will be ‘grounded and gritty.’ There is no doubt that this film will be the most successful among the upcoming Mattel toy movie line, but this wager is won by being next. Here are our recommendations.
Will ‘American Girl’ Be A Surprise Winner?
It would be easy to declare ‘Hot Wheels’ the winner for the next Mattel toy movie release, but this release has been pushed back after many thought it would come out in 2023. The earliest projections now are late 2024 or early 2025.
‘Polly Pocket’ was confirmed to be back in 2021, but the movie is in the final stages of pre-production, with the second draft of the script finalized a year later. It doesn’t seem as distribution company, MGM, is in any hurry. Lily Collins (Emily In Paris) will star.
An ‘American Girl’ movie is coming, but there is minimal speculation as to when it will come out. To conclude our Mattel Toy movie odds preview, we’re going with ‘Hot Wheels’ as our selection. This film seems further along than the other options and would be a terrific Summer or Christmas release.
