Seagulls Rue Missed Opportunities vs. Brentford

Brighton came away from Wednesday’s road match at Brentford with a scoreless draw. It was the Seagulls’ third shutout in their last four games overall but Roberto De Zerbi was frustrated his side couldn’t get the win. Brighton did create a lot of chances but didn’t have a cutting edge in front of goal. However, their link up play in the final third was superb and could cause Arsenal some problems come Saturday.

The Seagulls’ leading scorer Joao Pedro returned to the lineup for the first time in two months but couldn’t grab a goal upon his return. He’ll undoubtedly be an asset for De Zerbi’s Brighton as we enter the home stretch of the season. Injuries have derailed Brighton’s campaign and it will be a challenge just for them to return to European competition next season. They’ll enter the weekend in ninth place and they still have matches vs. Chelsea, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Manchester United on their EPL schedule.

Evan Ferguson, who has scored six EPL goals for Brighton this season, was a notable absentee on Wednesday. He missed the match with a knock and may be available vs. Arsenal. Meanwhile, De Zerbi criticized Barcelona Ansu Fati for “not doing enough for the team” and left the winger out of the squad on Wednesday so he could work on his fitness. Brighton have been missing Japanese winger Kaoru Mitoma, who is dealing with a long term back injury. Billy Gilmour could also miss the month of April, while James Milner and Solly March are working their way back into shape.

Saka Set to Return for Arsenal

Mikel Arteta made five changes on Wednesday from the side that started vs. Manchester City on Sunday. Midfielder Emile Smith Rowe made a rare start and Reiss Nelson made an even rarer one. The two played a role in Arsenal’s second goal in their 2-0 win over Luton Town. Smith Rowe sent in a cross that Nelson was closest to as Daiki Hashioka sent the ball into his own net. Arsenal’s captain Martin Odegaard scored the Gunners’ first goal earlier on in the first as Kai Havertz provided the assist.

Arsenal have set the defensive standard in the Premier League so far. The Gunners have conceded just 24 times in 30 games and the pairing of Gabriel and William Saliba in the heart of defense has been superb. Heading into Matchday 30, the Gunners had also scored the most goals in the EPL. Bukayo Saka leads the Gunners in scoring but he wasn’t in the squad on Wednesday. Saka picked up a muscle injury in the scoreless draw at Man City and Arteta decided not to risk Arsenal’s “Starboy”.

Arsenal also jumped to first place in the Premier League standings with Wednesday’s victory. If Liverpool draw or lose to Sheffield United on Thursday, the Gunners will control their own destiny from here on out. The outright Premier League odds currently price Arsenal at +250 to win the league for the first time in 20 years. While Saka should be in the lineup on Saturday, Jurrien Timber remains the only Arsenal player sidelined.
