Battle of the Best: McIlroy and Scheffler at Pebble
AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Odds
The sportsbook has released AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am odds for the next tournament on the PGA Tour schedule.
It’s the best field of 2024 so far, including Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler headlining betting markets.
Featuring in the field are Viktor Hovland, Jordan Spieth, and Max Homa, so it’s a high-quality golfing field.
Back-to-Back for McIlroy
McIlroy comes off a win in Dubai, so he’s seeking consecutive wins on the global stage.
There is slightly more depth to this field than what he faced in Dubai, but the Northern Irishman is playing with confidence.
The 34-year-olds most recent PGA Tour win came at the 2022 CJ Cup, which wasn’t played in the US. His most recent win on American soil came at the 2022 TOUR Championship against a limited field.
Prior to that, his most recent win against a full field in the US came in 2021 at the Wells Fargo Championship.
He doesn’t often win tournaments like the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which is our biggest worry. However, he’s clearly playing with confidence, and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am odds have him at +800.
That’s a price worth taking for the joint-favorite.
Time to Back Scheffler
Scheffler likes to win in February, and it’s time for his best golf to come out.
The PGA Tour schedule is his for the taking over the next three months, and he’s still yet to win a PGA Tour tournament outside February, March, and April.
The American world number one is on the same line of betting as Mcllroy at +800, which is a fair price.
He didn’t play his best at The American Express when finishing T17 behind an amateur golfer, but he shot -7 on Sunday, which should give him confidence.
It’s hard to believe Scheffler is still only 27 years of age. It feels like he has been around for 10+ years, so to have six wins on his record is impressive.
Two of those wins have come at the Phoenix Open in February, and although we’re not in Phoenix this week, he should still play well.
If he gets off to a good start, the +800 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am odds will shorten significantly with live betting markets.
Aberg Continues to Rise
Ludvig Aberg is already a four-time winner around the world, including one win on the PGA Tour.
The 24-year-old Swedish player was only four shots behind the winner last week at the Farmers Insurance Open, and we don’t think it will take him long to win this year.
Aberg burst onto the scene last year with wins in the European Masters and RSM Classic. His win at the RSM Classic came by four strokes when shooting -29, which showcased his class.
He’s currently paying +2800 to win, which is more than enough value from the sportsbook. We would have priced him around +2000, so lock in the golf odds available.
Sticking with Fleetwood
It’s not easy to back Tommy Fleetwood on a consistent basis, but the Brit is worth backing again.
His overdue win on the PGA Tour is coming soon. He has too much talent to let it go to waste, and bettors get +3300 odds.
He comes off a T14 finish at the Dubai Desert Classic behind McIlroy, and his confidence is building.
He’s better suited to the tougher courses in Europe, but Fleetwood is desperate for a victory, and we’re sticking with him for another week.
