Barcelona Fall in El Clasico
Champions League Clubs Clash
In El Clasico on Saturday, Barcelona took a 1-0 lead over rivals Real Madrid but ultimately fell 2-1. The defending La Liga champions will be looking for a bounce back but have another tough test on Saturday. Real Sociedad, a fellow Champions League club, host Barcelona on Saturday in the La Liga match of the week. Sociedad are already five points outside of the top four and will be looking for all three points here. Stay tuned for our Barcelona vs Real Sociedad prediction and the odds for Saturday’s game.
Real Sociedad vs Barcelona Head-to-Head:
Real Sociedad and Barcelona last met in May, after FCB had already clinched the La Liga title. The La Liga betting lines priced Barcelona as -130 favorites but Real Sociedad won 2-1. It was their first win over Barça since 2016 and first road win since 1991. Barcelona defeated Sociedad 4-1 in the reverse fixture as Robert Lewandowski scored twice. Barcelona also beat the Txuri-Urdin 1-0 in last season’s Copa del Rey quarterfinal. In the last 10 La Liga meetings, Barcelona are 8-1-1.
Real Sociedad Give up Lead Late
Real Sociedad will face Barcelona on Saturday in one of the most exciting La Liga games today. Sociedad are coming off a 2-2 draw at Rayo Vallecano last Sunday. The Txuri-Urdin’s captain, Mikel Oyarzabal, scored both of their goals. Sociedad were minutes away from a victory but Rayo’s Tiago Bebe scored a stoppage time equalizer. Sociedad’s scoring stats have been solid this soccer season, only four teams have more goals.
However, they’ve already conceded 14 goals in 11 games which ranks eighth in the league. While it’s hard to discuss Real Sociedad without talking about Mikel Oyarzabal, Takefusa Kubo has also been a star player this season. Oyarzabal, a Spanish international, leads the team with six goals but Kubo has gotten on the scoresheet five times.
Sociedad are unbeaten in the Champions League so far as well, with two wins and a draw. Although they’ve conceded a fair bit this season, Sociedad’s defense has been improving in recent weeks. They’ve kept five clean sheets in their last seven matches, in all competitions. Bettors can expect Kieran Tierney and Andre Silva to miss this match, while Mikel Merquelanz is questionable.
Barcelona Fall in El Clasico
Barcelona had no answer for Real Madrid’s marquee signing Jude Bellingham on Saturday. Ilkay Gundogan did open the scoring for Barcelona and the midfielder has impressively scored in Der Klassiker, the Manchester Derby and El Clasico. Still Real Madrid were persistent and Bellingham scored a second half wonder goal to level the match. In stoppage time, Bellingham hit in a deflected cross to win the match for Real Madrid.
FCB’s La Liga championship defense isn’t necessarily going according to plan so far. They’ve dropped points four times in 11 matches and are currently in fourth, four points behind leaders Real. The Clasico loss was Barcelona’s first of the season, in all competitions, as well. While Barcelona are a perfect 3-0 in the Champions League, they’ve won just two of their last five La Liga games.
Notably, Barcelona could get a double injury boost heading into the weekend. Barça’s midfield will be greatly improved should Frenkie de Jong and Pedri both return to the lineup. Barcelona vs Real Sociedad predictions would certainly swing even more in favor of the Catalan club if the duo suits up. Robert Lewandowski is currently Barcelona’s leading scorer in La Liga, with five goals.
Real Sociedad vs Barcelona Match Analysis & Odds
Before taking on Barcelona on Saturday, Real Sociedad will face off vs. sixth-tier club CD Buñol in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday. It will provide an opportunity for squad rotation and few of Sociedad’s key players are likely to be risked. Barcelona vs Real Sociedad predictions should take into account the fact that FCB don’t have a midweek match and can rest up during the week.
Currently, Barcelona are +115 road favorites for this match and they’ll be confident of avoiding a second straight defeat. Sociedad’s last home win over Barcelona was in 2016 and the Basque club come in as +245 underdogs for this one. Real Sociedad pk, +0.5 sits at -105 odds, while Barcelona pk, -0.5 displays -115. Notably, Barcelona have won just two of their five road matches this season.
They are unbeaten away from home, though, with a 2-3-0 record. Bettors can take a draw at +250 but none of the last seven La Liga head-to-head matchups between these sides have finished all square. Under 2.5 goals are priced at -115 odds but both teams are on long scoring streaks in La Liga. Barça have scored in ten straight games, while Sociedad have found the net in eight in a row.
