Girona vs Real Sociedad Odds & Preview

Key La Liga Matchup

Girona Continue to Impress

Many thought that Girona’s scoreless draw a few weekends ago vs last-placed Almeria was a sign of things to come. Instead of falling off, Girona have stayed on top of La Liga and have a key La Liga matchup vs Real Sociedad on Saturday. Sociedad finished in the Champions League places last season but they haven’t reached the same heights this season. With both sides in need of the three points here, we’ll cover the Girona vs Real Sociedad odds.

Day/Time:
Location: Estadi Montilivi, Girona, Spain

Head-to-Head

This is the eighth meeting on the La Liga schedule between Girona and Real Sociedad all-time. In the previous seven meetings, Sociedad hold an unbeaten 2-5-0 record. In August, these La Liga teams drew 1-1 but the pregame Girona vs Real Sociedad odds priced the Txuri-Urdin as -160 moneyline favorites. Sociedad haven’t lost to Girona since a 2010 Segunda Division meeting. Sociedad captain Mikel Oyarzabal has three career goals vs Girona.

Girona Setting Scoring Pace

Last Wednesday, Girona went to Mallorca for a Copa del Rey Quarter-final matchup. Girona disappointingly fell behind 3-0 in the first half but did manage to fight back as the match ended 3-2.

Determined not to let the loss affect their La Liga form, Girona picked up a 1-0 win at Celta Vigo last weekend to stay one point ahead of second-placed Real Madrid in the Spanish La Liga standings. Real have a game in hand, which they’ll play on Thursday vs Getafe.

Girona’s Portu struck in the first half at Celta, for the game’s only goal. Paulo Gazzaniga, Girona’s keeper, had to make a few key stops to preserve the lead.

Entering the weekend, Girona are La Liga’s highest-scoring squad, with 52 goals through 22 games. Artem Dovbyk has scored 14 of them and he’s tied with Jude Bellingham for the La Liga lead as of Thursday morning.

Dovbyk recently scored a hat trick within 20 minutes in a 5-1 rout of Sevilla and the big Ukrainian striker is a constant goal threat. Heading into the weekend, Girona have a few La Liga players out due to injuries. Eric Garcia, David Lopez and Juanpe could all miss Saturday’s match.

Real Sociedad Missing Kubo

While Real Sociedad have held their opponents to three goals in their last five La Liga fixtures, they’ve also only scored three times during that span. Last weekend, the Txuri-Urdin couldn’t find a breakthrough in a match that ended all square vs Rayo Vallecano. They did manage to advance to the Copa del Rey Semifinal, though, as Sociedad defeated Celta Vigo 2-1.

Although they’re in sixth place, Real Sociedad have lost just four of their 22 league matches this season. Real Sociedad are also en route to the Champions League knockout stage, where they’ll take on Paris Saint-Germain. At the moment, Sociedad seem to be lacking in creativity and a few of their players are away on international duty.

Takefusa Kubo, who has scored six La Liga goals and provided three assists, is with Japan at the AFC Asian Cup. Meanwhile, starting defender Hamari Traore helped Mali advance to the AFCON Quarter-final.

Arsen Zakharyan and Robin Le Normand also went off injured in match vs Rayo Vallecano. While Le Normand could play this weekend, expect Zakharyan, Aihen Muñoz, Carlos Fernandez and Ander Barrenetxea to all be out.

Match Analysis & Odds

In their last ten games, in all competitions, Real Sociedad have scored just eight goals and conceded four. Their matches have been quite low scoring this season, while Girona’s La Liga matches have averaged 3.5 goals.

Here, under 2.5 goals sit at -125 odds and Girona have averaged that figure alone over their last 10 games. The Girona vs Real Sociedad odds also list Girona as +115 home favorites.

Girona, despite entering Thursday in first place, show just +500 odds to win the La Liga title. This is one they’ll need to grab all three points in to stay in the thick of the race.

Sociedad without Take Kubo, are +240 underdogs but they’ve never lost a La Liga match to Girona. Bettors can also take a draw at +245, which happened in the last match between these two sides.

Hosts Girona also enter this match with an excellent 17-4-1 La Liga record and Girona pk, -0.5 is priced at -115. Real Sociedad have only lost four La Liga matches this season and hold a 4-4-3 road record. Sociedad pk, +0.5 displays -105 odds and they did defeat Girona 5-3 on the road last season.
