Can St. Louis Make Up Ground Against Milwaukee?

Brewers vs Cardinals Analysis Gives Former Pitching Edge For G1

The Milwaukee Brewers visit the St. Louis Cardinals for a three-game series starting Friday. The Brewers lead the NL Central by one-half game in the MLB standings over the Cubs. The Cardinals are in last place, but just 3.0 games behind Milwaukee.

The Brewers (11-6) are back on the road after dropping two of three to the Padres at home. The Cardinals were 3-3 on a swing through Arizona and Oakland.

St Louis has played 13 road games and just six home games so far. Our Brewers vs Cardinals analysis notes the Brewers have the pitching edge on Friday, but St. Louis gets the nod in the next two games.

Friday’s Game

The Brewers will send Freddy Peralta to the mound, while the Cardinals counter with Kyle Gibson. The Brewers are favored -130 with the game’s total at 7.5, shaded to the over (-115).

Peralta is off to another solid start this season, with the Brewers winning all three of his starts. He was sharp in two of his three starts, but labored a bit against Seattle, allowing three runs in 5 2/3 innings. Milwaukee has scored 17 runs in his last two starts, which makes things much easier.

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

Gibson has been roughed up a little bit in his last two starts. He’s allowed 11 runs in 12 innings, with the Cardinals losing both MLB games. He won his first start of the year against San Diego. Opponents are hitting just .246 against Gibson, but he’s also allowed six walks in 19 innings.

He’s also allowed five home runs, three being three-run blasts. It’s no wonder he is sporting an ERA of 6.16.

Milwaukee has some power, which doesn’t bode well for Gibson. The line is about what was expected since Gibson’s numbers are a bit ugly so far. Peralta has fanned at least seven in each of his three starts this season and if the price remains low, the Brewers are the side to use as one of your baseball picks for Friday.

Saturday’s Game

The Brewers vs Cardinals analysis shows left-hander DL Hall getting the start for Milwaukee. The Brewers have won two of Hall’s three starts this year, but he hasn’t pitched particularly well.

He’s lasted more than five innings just once, allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings against Seattle. Opponents are hitting .386 against Hall and he’s allowed four home runs in 12 innings.

The Cardinals are 3-0 against left-handed starters this MLB season, but were just 17-25 a year ago. St. Louis was 8-13 at home against left-handed starters, so it is not their best location.

The Cardinals are just 1-3 when Mikolas starts this season and were 15-20 a year ago. He hasn’t lived up to his reputation the past couple of seasons, although he’s going to be a decent favorite in this game

Hall looked pretty decent for the Orioles last year but hasn’t come close to duplicating those numbers yet. The biggest concern here is that the Cardinals will be priced too high to consider for a wager. Anything above -140 is too much to lay considering the record of Mikolas recently.

Sunday’s Game

The Brewers vs Cardinals analysis shows Colin Rea and Sonny Gray as the scheduled starters. Rea has pitched pretty well this season. The Brewers are 2-1 when he starts and he hasn’t allowed more than three runs in any start. Foes are batting .254 against him this season. Rea has allowed 20 runners to reach base

Gray has pitched 11 scoreless innings in his two games on the mound this season. St. Louis has won both games, but it would like to see him stretch it out a bit and not use the bullpen as much.
