Struggling Twins Favored to Tame the Visiting Tigers

Despite Recently Being Swept, the Tigers vs Twins Betting Odds Favors Host Minnesota in Weekend Series

Ryan, Twins Favored to Take Friday’s Series Opener Against the Rival Tigers

Two of the favorites to win the American League Central Division title will meet for the second time this month when defending division champion Minnesota heading to meet the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers vs Twins betting odds favor host Detroit to win Friday’s series opener.

The teams just split a four-game series in Detroit, combining for 26 runs in the first two games and just 12 in the final two contests. The Tigers have won six of the last nine meetings with the Twins and have captured four of the last six games played in Minnesota. Four of the last six times that Minnesota hosted Detroit, the game went over the total.

The MLB betting lines have Minnesota at -145 to win Friday’s series opener outright, with +140 odds for the Twins to cover as the 1.5-run favorite. Detroit comes in at +125 to win on Friday with -165 odds to cover against the run line as the 1.5-run underdog.

Minnesota is tied for 10th at +3000 in the odds of winning the World Series, with Detroit tied for 20th at +6500 in the championship odds.

  • Saturday: Reese Olson (Tigers) vs Bailey Ober (Twins)
  • Sunday: Casey Mize (Tigers) vs Louie Varland (Twins)

Top Picks Not Delivering

When the Tigers used No. 1 overall picks on pitcher Casey Mize and infielder Spencer Torkelson, they were expected to be at the forefront of Detroit’s rebuilding process.

Neither Mize nor Torkelson have been performing like No. 1 picks.

Mize has allowed 15 hits and seven runs in 15.1 innings in his first three starts as he works his way back after missing all of 2023 due to injury. That could come into play regarding the Tigers vs Twins betting odds.

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

Torkelson is batting .216 with no home runs and 18 strikeouts in 19 games.

The good news is Detroit still has a winning record without major contributions from two of the franchise’s building blocks.

The total went under in four of Detroit’s last six games.

Wins are Hard to Come By For the Twins

Minnesota has yet to win another series since winning two out of three games against the Kansas City Royals.
The offense has been missing in action so far this season, and Minnesota’s .193 team batting average is the worst in the majors. Keep that in mind when looking at the Tigers vs. Twins betting odds.

The Twins are just 6-for-29 with runners in scoring position and have scored 12 runs during a four-game losing streak. Six of the nine players to start for Minnesota in a loss to Baltimore on Thursday ended the game hitting under .200, and that is certainly not a winning formula for a team that was 10th in the majors in runs scored a season ago.

Among American League teams, only the Oakland Athletics and the Chicago White Sox have scored fewer runs than the Twins.

When analyzing recent Major League Baseball results, the total went under in four of Minnesota’s last six home games against Detroit.

Who’s Hot

  • Kerry Carpenter, Detroit Tigers OF: Carpenter had four extra-base hits, including two home runs in his last three games.
  • Jason Foley, Detroit Tigers P: Foley has allowed five hits and no runs with nine strikeouts in nine innings this season.
  • Jose Miranda, Minnesota Twins 3B: Miranda is 6-for-16 with three extra-base hits and three RBIs in his last four games.
  • Brock Stewart, Minnesota Twins P: Stewart has allowed six hits and no runs with 14 strikeouts in 9.2 innings this season.

Who’s Not

  • Jack Flaherty, Detroit Tigers P: Flaherty has surrendered 15 hits, two home runs, and nine runs in 12.1 innings in his last two starts.
  • Eduoard Julien, Minnesota Twins 2B: Julien is 1-for-18 with 10 strikeouts in his last four games.
  • Jake Rogers, Detroit Tigers C: Rogers is 0-for-10 with two strikeouts in his last three games.
  • Louie Varland, Minnesota Twins P: Varland has given up 24 hits, five home runs, and 15 runs in 14 innings of work this season.

Tigers vs Twins Injury Update

Infielder Andy Ibanez and pitcher Sawyer Gipson-Long are out for the Tigers.

Infielders Carlos Correa and Royce Lewis join outfielder Max Kepler, pitchers Jhoan Duran, Anthony DeDeSclafani, Josh Staumont, and Justin Topa on the injured list.

Tigers vs Twins Betting Preview

The Twins have won just one of their last six home games, and after going 49-36 at home last season, Minnesota has just one win at home this season. When looking at the Major League Baseball stats, the Twins are batting just .156 with 24 hits and 61 strikeouts at home. Going into this series without either Correa won’t help, as he had two doubles and three home runs against the Tigers a season ago.

Although there are cloudy conditions for Friday’s series opener, no rain is in the forecast.

Minnesota is 44-31 outright as a home favorite since the start of last season, with Detroit 31-37 as a road underdog. The Tigers have covered against the run line in 41 of those games.

The total has gone under in seven of Minnesota’s last 10 games against teams from the American League Central Division.

When making MLB predictions, keep in mind when making MLB predictions that each of Detroit’s last five games played on a Friday went over the total. The total is at 7.5 runs in the series opener and look for that game to go over the total. Ryan has allowed nine combined runs in his last two starts against the Tigers, while Detroit starter Jack Flaherty has yet to find his game in the early part of the season.
