But pitching has been a different story. The Red Sox are No. 26 in team ERA at 4.77. Boston’s pitchers have allowed 550 hits in 553 innings and surrendered 81 home runs.

The Red Sox haven’t performed much differently on the road this season. Boston is 17-16 at home and 14-16 on the road. Boston has been a solid over team all season, going 36-24-2 and 19-10-1 after a loss.

New York Yankees

The Yankees are 20-15 at home and 17-12 on the road. New York is just 19-17 after a win and 17-10 after losing. The Yankees won the second game Thursday so are entering this one off a win.

Handicapping the Game

Whitlock is making his sixth of the season for Boston. The Red Sox are 3-2 with him on the mound. His stats aren’t the greatest, but he’s thrown fairly well. Whitlock’s 5.61 ERA seems high considering his WHIP is just 1.286. He has decent career numbers but has been more successful as a relief pitcher.

Cole has made 13 starts for the Yankees and New York is 11-2 in those games. Both losses came on the road. New York has won all eight of Cole’s home starts.

Although the Yankees are -170 favorites, the line on this one seems a bit low. The Yankees are obviously the better team. New York has the better pitching and gets a big edge in starting pitching this game. The Yankees are a decent home team and Boston is pretty average on the road. It’s hard not to like the Yankees in the this one.
