Tigers vs Mariners Betting Odds: Mariners Seek Weekend Success

Seattle's Fighting for an AL Wild Card Spot to Begin the Second Half

The Seattle Mariners will begin their second half a game over .500 on the MLB season. The Mariners will start their second half at home against a team that hasn’t even won 40 games this season. That team would be the Tigers. Detroit has a lot of younger players that haven’t lived up to the hype. The Tigers are hoping that will change. But it will be an uphill battle in the second half. Below, we dissect the Tigers vs Mariners betting odds.

On the other hand, the Mariners are four games out of the final AL Wild Card spot. A series against the Tigers should help them close the AL Wild Card standings gap.

The Mariners and Tigers will begin a three-game weekend series at T-Mobile Park. Seattle is listed as -181 favorites at home in that first game. The total is 7, with the odds favoring the over slightly more. You can bet the Tigers as underdogs at a price of +161.

After a 7-3 finish to the first half, can the Mariners carry that momentum into the second half?

There’s Always Next Year for Detroit

The Tigers are in a familiar position. They will more than likely miss the playoffs again. The last time the Tigers made the playoffs was in 2014, so it’s been over ten years and nearly a decade.

The Tigers vs Mariners betting odds will likely favor the Mariners in every game this weekend.

The Tigers have struck out close to 24% of the time this season and have hit a .231 average. Like the Mariners, the Tigers aren’t hitting a high rate of extra-base hits. Detroit has hit a wOBA of just .294, comparable to teams like the Oakland Athletics and Kansas City Royals.

On the other hand, the pitching has produced more. The staff has allowed a 4.27 FIP and a 4.47 ERA on the season. That’s slightly below average in the MLB.

The starting rotation has talent. Matt Manning and a couple of relievers even pitched a no-hitter last week. But the offense has held this team back.

League Leaders

The Mariners and Tigers don’t have many MLB stat leaders for significant categories. However, George Kirby has 14 quality starts for the Mariners this season. He’s tied for first in that category, along with Kevin Gausman, Marcus Stroman, and Logan Webb.

We’ll see Kirby in the second game of this series for the Mariners. He’ll try to earn his 15th quality start of the season.

âš¾ Game 1 âš¾

Eduardo Rodriguez vs Luis Castillo

Eduardo Rodriguez is 4-5 with a 2.64 ERA on the season. The left-hander only started 12 games this season but has a 2.57 ERA on the road. Rodriguez is earning high strikeouts and limiting hits and walks. He currently has a respectable WHIP of 1.00 this year.

The Mariners have only hit .245 against lefties this season. They’ve also struck out 220 times to just 64 walks. Rodriguez has a solid MLB matchup here.

On the other hand, Rodriguez will face Luis Castillo, who has a 2.85 ERA for the Mariners. Like Rodriguez, Castillo has a low ERA but plenty of losses. Castillo also has a 2.44 ERA at home this year. In his most recent start, he shut down the Houston Astros with seven innings and one unearned run allowed.

The Tigers have only hit 60 home runs against righties this season in 857 in 2595 plate appearances. They’ve got minimal power against righties.

The Tigers vs. Mariners Betting Odds at Under 7 (-105) makes the most sense in Game 1. Add it to your MLB picks and parlays.

âš¾ Game 2 âš¾

Michael Lorenzen vs George Kirby

Michael Lorenzen was the lone All-Star for the Detroit Tigers. But he’s currently 3-6 with a 4.03 ERA on the season. Lorenzen has been average. He’s put together some awesome starts. But he’s nothing special.

On the other hand, George Kirby will take the hill for the Mariners. We acknowledged earlier that he’d be looking for his league-leading 15th quality start of the season. He hasn’t been given much run support when on the mound, but his ERA of 3.09 speaks for itself.

âš¾ Game 3 âš¾

Reese Olson vs TBD

Reese Olson will get the start for the Tigers in what could be the rubber match of a three-game series. We likely won’t know the Tigers vs Mariners Betting Odds for this game until Sunday because the Mariners still haven’t announced a starter.

Olson is the weakest pitcher in the five-person rotation for the Tigers. But he’s still got a 4.05 ERA on the year. His ERA stands at 3.09 on the road. However, he’s only started five games this year and has pitched at least six innings in just one game this season.

We might not see many runs in this entire series after all.
