Joe Musgrove Stats: Pitcher Getting Better With Age

Musgrove Has Been Solid Starter in His Career

The Joe Musgrove stats show a pitcher who has performed well during his career despite being on several subpar teams. He has also played on several good ones, including the 2017 Houston Astros, which won the World Series. But Musgrove has learned to pitch in his time in Major League Baseball. His first four seasons saw him with an ERA of over 4.00 each year. It has been below 4.00 every season afterward.

During his career, Musgrove’s teams are 82-78 when he takes the mound, going 80-77 in the regular season and 2-1 in the playoffs. His teams have been outscored by an average of 4.42 runs to 4.39 runs when he starts.

Early Career

Musgrove was drafted in the first round of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft out of high school. He never played for the Blue Jays and was part of a 10-player trade between Houston and Toronto on July 20, 2012. Due to injuries suffered in the minor leagues, it wasn’t until Aug. 2, 2016, that he made his MLB debut. Musgrove finished the season with a 4-4 record and an ERA of 4.06.

The Joe Musgrove stats show 2017 was his worst season from a statistical standpoint, as he split time between starting and coming out of the bullpen. He was 7-8 with a 4.77 ERA but did appear in seven postseason games, earning the win in Game 5 of the World Series against the Dodgers.

On Jan. 13, 2018, Musgrove was traded to the Pirates as part of the Gerrit Cole trade.

Through his first 13 starts of the 2023 season, Musgrove had a 7-2 record and a 3.56 ERA. San Diego was on the right side of the baseball scores in eight of those 13 starts.

Career-wise, Musgrove is 57-56 with a 3.56 ERA. He has averaged 8.9 strikeouts per nine innings and allowed 8.3 hits.
