Angels vs Dodgers Betting Preview: Key Insights and Predictions
Angels Tanked 15 of Last 18 Against Dodgers
Let’s start our Angels (45-44) vs Dodgers (49-38) betting preview by saying that this game is definitely among our best MLB bets today. The Halos are 6.5 games behind the Texas Rangers in the AL West and 3.5 out of the final wild-card spot.
- Tonight’s MLB pitching match-up features the Angels Griffin Canning (6-3, 4.29) against Tony Gonsolin (4-3, 3.69 era) for the Dodgers.
The Boys in Blue are big home favorites (-170/+150) with the total coming in at 9 (Over -105/-115).
We continue our Angels vs Dodgers preview by digging into both teams, followed by our official selection.

Angels Need to Find Offense in Re-Match With Dodgers
The Angels vs Dodgers current standings are similar to each other, but the Angels have dropped 7 of their last 10 games, while the Dodgers have won 10 of 15 to climb back into second place in the NL West. One problem for Phil Nevin’s team is a lack of offense. It doesn’t help that Mike Trout is on the 10-day IL and Anthony Rendon has been day to day with a shin issue. It’s likely Rendon will return for tonight’s battle of Los Angeles, but without Trout, the Angels line-up simply hasn’t produced.
Jo Adell hitting behind Ohtani is simply not going to compel Gonsolin to give Ohtani much to hit. Four of their last six games saw the Angels score three or fewer runs. Los Angelinos has struck out 241 times this season (9.27 per game). Between a lineup that failed to score in a two-game set against the Dodgers (4-0 combined) and Trouts’ absence, it’s hard to forecast a lot of runs being scored tonight. We continue our Angels vs Dodgers betting preview with a look at the Dodgers.
2023 All-Star Gonsolin Continues to Struggle
A year ago, Tony Gonsolin was 16-1, with a 2.14 era. He was in serious consideration to start the All-Star game in Los Angeles and is 30-9 in his 5-year career. Unfortunately, Gonsolin’s last three starts have been anything but typical. In his three losses to the Giants, Astros, and Royals, the Saint Mary’s product has allowed 15 earned runs in 16 innings (9.42 era). The Dodgers are just 5-7 when Gonsolin starts, a far cry from their 19-5 record in 2022.
The Angels may be just what Gonsolin needs to get back on track. He owns a 2-0 record, along with a sparkling 2.92 era. Last season, Gonsolin allowed just one hit against the Angels, as he pitched into the seventh inning. The Dodgers need a strong outing from Gonsolin while injuries to their staff continue to pile up after Daniel Hudson was added to the IL, Thursday. We conclude our Angels vs Dodgers betting preview with our official selection.
Scoring Will Be At a Premium in Game One
With Mike Trout out of the line-up against a team that the Angels failed to score against with their all-star in the line-up, it’s hard to believe that we’ll see anything but another low-scoring affair in game one. The Angels have been an under team in 2023 (43-40) despite having one of the most feared lineups in baseball.
The Dodgers are 50-33 to the over, but it’s going to be hard crawling over that total of 9 when it’s likely the Blue Crew will have to shoulder most of the load. The under is 5-1 in their last six meetings in Dodger Stadium and 21-7-1 in the Angels’ last 29 after a day off.
Our official selection for Friday’s game one is the under 9 -114. That does it for our Angels vs Dodgers betting preview, all the best with your wagers this weekend.
