Hawks Are Hot, But No Match for Dallas

Hawks vs Mavericks Odds, Matchup and More

Hawks vs Mavericks odds opened at Dallas -11, with a total of 231.5. The Mavericks are heavy favorites at home after recently having won seven games in a row, and sitting at the fifth seed in the packed Western Conference.

The Hawks, one of the more disappointing teams of the season, are still holding out hope for a Play-In Tournament miracle, they are currently the tenth seed in the East.

The Mavs NBA finals odds have recently increased to +2500, with Vegas believing they are the seventh most likely team to win it all. The Hawks are surprisingly only +75000 to win it all, a bet that you should only make if you want to give the book some charity.

With the Hawks vs Mavericks odds in hand, we are going to look at the NBA weekly schedule, matchup history, and player props and see if we can find any good bets to make for NBA picks tonight.

Winning Streak Ended

The Mavs had their seven-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night by the Golden State Warriors. Dallas fought hard, their stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving dropping 30 and 27 points respectively while both shooting over 50% from the field. Luka also chipped in 12 rebounds and 11 assists, notching his 20th triple-double of the season. Unfortunately, their role players shot a collective 6-of-21 from three-point range, and the desperate Warriors willed themselves to a victory.

Trade acquisition PJ Washington also had a decent scoring night for Dallas, scoring 20 points for the first time since early March. His 20-pointer is capping off a good scoring stretch during the last few games. PJ has hit the over on his scoring prop in four of the last five games. The Hawks are the fourth-worst defense in the league and are seventh worst points allowed to power forwards. PJ could be in for another nice scoring game on Thursday.

Another Maverick to look at for a possible prop bet on Thursday is Kyrie Irving. Kyrie will likely have Atlanta Hawks’ top defender, Dejounte Murray, guarding him often, likely limiting his scoring. He has notched a measly two assists in two of the Mav’s last three games, so oddsmakers may adjust his line down. If they do, in the last 10 games, Kyrie Irving has averaged 6.4 assists and has hit the over 70% of the time.

Hawks Hurting Bad

The Hawks are in a precarious position. They have all but locked up the ninth or tenth seed in the Eastern Conference, but with star Trae Young out indefinitely, have no real hope of playoff success. Tanking the rest of the season would probably be better for the Hawks long term. Unfortunately for their tanking hopes, they are seven losses ahead of the eleven-seed Nets.

Even though the Hawks may not be where they’d like to be in the standings, they’ve been playing fairly well as of late. The Hawks have won an incredible seven of their last eight games (including TWO wins over the number one seed Boston Celtics), all without Trae Young. Three of those wins came with them as underdogs, and as of Wednesday, they have covered six of their last ten games.

The emergence of Jalen Johnson has been a blessing for Hawks fans, giving them further hope for the future. Johnson came back from injury recently and notched a huge 28-point triple-double Wednesday night against the Detroit Pistons. With Johnson back in the lineup bettors can take a look at Bogdan Bogdanovic for potential under props. Before Wednesday, Bogdanovic had hit his points over in four of the Hawks’s last five games. He only scored ten points with Johnson taking a chunk of the offensive load Wednesday, a trend we could see continuing Thursday.

Dallas Winning This One

Hawks vs Mavericks odds opened at Dallas -11, with a total of 231.5. Although the Hawks have been playing well of late, besides their Boston wins, most of their wins (and covers) came against weak competition. We think Dallas will win this one, but the Hawks will certainly have an opportunity to cover. These teams are 5-5 against the spread in their last ten games against one another. They also are 5-5 in over/unders in those games, so this one will be difficult to predict.
