Liberty vs Aces Betting Odds Preview: For the Commissioner’s Cup

Aces Comfortably Favored in this Title Game

Las Vegas Has Owned New York at Home

It’s not only the Commissioner’s Cup Championship. It’s the rubber match between the Las Vegas Aces and the New York Liberty, the WNBA’s two juggernauts. Both have combined to go 49-8 versus the rest of the league but have split their two meetings. Recently, the Liberty blew out the Aces in New York. Now, the Liberty vs Aces betting odds favor the latter to return the favor in Vegas, where they have dominated against the Liberty.

New York Liberty (24-6) vs Las Vegas Aces (27-3)

Date, time:

Liberty Heads to Vegas With Plenty of Momentum

The Liberty are peaking heading to this championship game. They have won six straight games and are 10-2 since the All-Star break. New York also won its last four games by double digits and covered each of its spreads. This includes a 99-61 thumping of Las Vegas, in which it was an underdog of five points.

More importantly, Breanna Stewart snapped out of her funk in a big way. The 2018 MVP set a WNBA record with her third 40-point game as she torched Indiana for 42 points. She shot 15-of-23 from the field and hit five of her 10 3-point attempts while filling up the WNBA stats sheet.

“I was getting some good looks,” Stewart said. “They were switching a lot, just continuing to read what the defense gave me. And that kind of just continued throughout [the game]. I’m really happy with how we all played, in general.”

Before this explosion, “Stewie” was shooting just 43.1% and averaging 21.8 points in her last 11 games. It comes at an opportune time as she and the Liberty gear up to rematch the Aces for the Commissioner’s Cup Championship in Vegas.

The Liberty vs Aces betting odds sport New York 7.0 points as the underdogs. The total of 177 also denotes a game where New York will have to outscore Vegas’s league-leading offense. This number is up from 172.5 just yesterday. New York has averaged 111.6 in offensive rating in its last 12 games and has won its last five road games.

But historically, the Liberty fade in Las Vegas. The franchise is just 1-8 in its last nine visits to Sin City. Now is the best time to buck the trend.

Las Vegas is Still the Ace

The Liberty may feel like kings and queens. But Las Vegas is ready to prove it still has the ace. Even with that blowout loss to New York, the Aces still have the best net rating (14.1) and offensive rating (113.4) post All-Star break. This team stays atop the 2023 WNBA standings and is 5-0 against the spread (ATS) in its last five home games.

On top of that, there is the intangible that Becky Hammon just got inducted into the Hall of Fame. The current Aces head coach won the Coach of the Year last season after she led Las Vegas to the WNBA Championship and the Commissioners’ Championship. This could just give the team a bit of a morale boost.

“She talks all the time about being small, but she has the heart of a giant,” Aces guard Chelsea Gray said. “This is only her second year [in Las Vegas], but she’s made me a better player. From the moment she stepped into the building, I can confidently say that she’s the best coach I’ve ever had.”

As such, the Liberty vs Aces betting odds will peg Vegas as a moderate favorite as it typically is this season. The Aces have now improved to be 18-12 ATS after hovering in the .500 territory here.

Even without Candace Parker, the team should roll and meet Liberty at their best. This would make WNBA predictions tough to call. But a lot of fun.
