NBA Monday Matchups Scores: A Day for Underdogs

Road Dogs Bark Loudest

Top Teams Keep Rolling

The top NBA teams in both conferences were in action last night, with the Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets both securing home wins to stay atop the NBA standings. Let’s take a look at the NBA Monday Matchups Scores to see how the markets performed.

The Underdogs went 4-1 against-the-spread (ATS) on closing numbers, while totals were again evenly split going 3-3 on the Over/Under markets.

The Celtics were 107-99 winners at home to the Chicago Bulls in a game where market position mattered depending what side you were on.

Boston covered the -7.5 point opening line, but it was the Bulls who delivered for late money bettors with the +8.5 closing number just sneaking home for the road team. Boston led 96-84 with 5:33 to play in the final quarter before the Bulls went on a 13-3 run to get to within a bucket heading into the final two minutes.

‘The Celtics closed on an 8-2 run to reward early bettors that beat the closing market, but the total stayed comfortably under the 236.0 point closing number.’

The Nuggets won and covered against a LA Lakers team missing LeBron James. The All-Star forward was a late out for the road team, who saw their six-game win streak come to an end against the best team in the West.

Denver opened as 9.0-point favorites before closing at -12.5 across the board. The 122-109 final score meant they covered all numbers for bettors, with the Lakers failing to get inside the number in the final quarter.

West Ruled Supreme in Non-Conference Action

The New Orleans Pelicans bounced back from their recent skid as they left Washington with a 132-112 win over the Wizards.

The Pelicans opened and closed as 1.5-point underdogs in this one as they overcame a slow start that saw them fall behind by double-digits in the opening quarter. New Orleans used a 14-4 run to close out the half and take a 12-point lead into halftime before opening up a big lead en route to a comfortable victory.

Despite some late market support on the Under this game flew over the 228.5 point total as both teams shot over 50% from the field.

The Sacramento Kings were also big winners as they routed the Orlando Magic in front of their home fans.

The 136-111 final was reflective of their dominance from the opening tip as their offense erupted for 41 points in the opening quarter. The road team never got within single-digits in the second half as the Kings made light work of a tired Orlando outfit.

Bucks, Grizzlies Roll

The Milwaukee Bucks rallied from 17-points down to beat the New York Knicks on the road.

The Knicks went from 2.5-point underdogs to -1.0 point favorites in this one, but the market was left red-faced as the Bucks pulled off an improbable road win despite a sluggish performance for the majority of the contest.

Neither team shot the ball well throughout, but it was Milwaukee who was able to find their range from deep when it mattered most in the fourth quarter as they took a 3-0 series lead over a New York team that was again left to rue poor play down the stretch.

This total went from 222.0 points down to 219.0 points by tip-off and the market proved right as the 111-107 final kept it just shy of the closing number.

The Memphis Grizzlies recorded another home win on the second of a back-to-back as they took care of the San Antonio Spurs.

‘The 121-113 final wasn’t without an air of discomfort though and the Spurs were able to cover the 11.5 point spread given to them by bookmakers.’

San Antonio rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to take a 103-98 lead in the final quarter. The NBA Scores  and Spreads had them tied at 109-109 with 6:24 to play before the home side closed out on a 12-4 run to secure another home win.
