NC State vs Virginia Betting Trends

Meanwhile, the Virginia Cavaliers are 10-8 ATS, including 8-2 at home. The Cavaliers have gone Under the total in 11 of their 18 NCAA football games.

Remember these NC State vs Virginia betting trends when analyzing the odds.

Jury’s Still Out on NC State

NC State is 13-5, including 5-2 in ACC play, but is coming off an 84-78 loss to Virginia Tech on Saturday. A 4.5-point favorite, NC State failed to cover for the fifth time in its last seven games and dropped to 8-10 ATS, including 6-5 at home.

The Wolfpack are still looking for a signature win, having gone 0-3 against currently ranked opponents. To their credit, they’re 3-1 on the road. However, most bracketologists believe they have more work to do before earning consideration for the NCAA Tournament.

As such, the Wolfpack are a +4500 longshot to win the ACC — North Carolina is the current favorite at -380 — and +3500 to make the Final Four.

NC State ranks 100th in scoring and 185th in shooting efficiency. Senior guard DJ Horne, who’s playing at his third school in four NCAAB seasons after stops at Illinois State and Arizona State, is the team’s top scorer at 15.1 points per game.

NC State is just 1-4 as an underdog this season compared to 12-1 when favored. Although it’s been difficult to trust ATS, NC State is 11-6-1 against the Over/Under. Be sure to keep that NC State vs Virginia betting trend in mind.

Virginia Fighting for Respect

Virginia is in a similar position as NC State in the NCAA basketball standings, off to a 13-5 start but needing to do more to earn consideration for the NCAA Tournament.

The Cavaliers have a quality win on their ledger, having beaten then-No. 14 Texas A&M in November. However, an uneven start to ACC play has dampened some of the early optimism around Tony Bennett’s team.

The Cavaliers are 4-3 in conference, nearly equaling their number of losses from all last season (15-5). As such, their odds to win March Madness have plummeted from +8000 to +20000.

Virginia has maintained its identity on the defensive end, ranking second in the country in opponent scoring, 26th in 2-point defense, and 43rd in steal percentage. Only three opponents have topped 70 points.

However, the Cavaliers’ inefficiency on the other end of the floor — they rank 340th in scoring — has held them back. Only two Cavaliers are averaging double figures in points, led by senior guard Reece Beekman (13.2).

The Cavaliers have won 20 consecutive home games and are undefeated this season (10-0) at John Paul Jones Arena. That includes an 8-2 mark ATS. But the Cavaliers have also gone Under the total in 11 of their last 16 games, including seven of 10 at home.

Handicapping the Game

NC State has handled Virginia once already, beating the Cavaliers 76-60 on Jan. 6. The Wolfpack shot 49.1%, hit 10 3-pointers, and matched the second-most points scored against Virginia this season.

Virginia, however, is a different team at home. The Cavaliers, who lead the ACC at limiting opponent’s scoring, are 10-0 in home games. They’re allowing an average of 58.2 points while holding opponents to 39.8% shooting.

Beekman, the Cavaliers’ top scorer, had 12 points and 10 assists in the teams’ first meeting. Look for him to have similar success on Wednesday.
