Georgia Tech vs Miami Odds: Can Tyler Van Dyke Help Keep Miami Undefeated on Saturday?

Miami's 4-0 Record & Top 25 AP Rank Has Hurricanes Fans Excited

The Miami Hurricanes will come off their bye week looking to stay undefeated against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

The Hurricanes are currently ranked 17th in the AP Poll and are having one of the best starts to the season in a long time.

The Hurricanes only have one intriguing win. But that win was against Texas A&M, where the Hurricanes scored 48 points in a 48-33 win.

Meanwhile, they’ll take on Georgia Tech, who are just 2-3 on the season. Ironically, the Yellow Jackets’ quarterback, Haynes King, transferred out of Texas A&M in the offseason. He’s been good. But the defense hasn’t.

Can the Hurricanes add to their win streak in Week 6?

Take a look at the Georgia Tech vs Miami odds for one of the ACC matchups on the ACC Network.

Georgia Tech’s New Defensive Coordinator

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets lost to Bowling Green 38-27 after the Yellow Jackets allowed 38 points in a game where they were 22.5-point favorites.

That didn’t sit well with the team. So they’ve shaken some things up. The previous defensive coordinator, Andrew Thacker, will not call the defense anymore.

Instead, it’ll be linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer calling the plays on defense.

Thacker will still be on the staff as the safeties coach after a bunch of shuffling with staff members on the defensive end.

The Yellow Jackets have allowed 427.8 yards per game this season. 224.2 of those yards have come on the ground, while another 203.6 yards have been in the air. Teams have had a solid balance between the run and passing games against the Yellow Jackets through the first five games.

With Sherrer getting the defensive coordinator duties, Miami fully expects some new wrinkles on defense. Sherrer coached the New York Giants as the linebackers coach in 2020 and 2021. He’s also had stints with Georgia and Tennessee earlier in his career.

Georgia Tech has allowed about 31 points per game through five games. They’ve had a solid schedule of FBS teams, but 31 points is still unacceptable.

We’ll see what Georgia Tech can do against one of the top college football teams in the nation on Saturday.

Is Miami The Most Dominant Team In The ACC?

The stats would suggest that the Miami Hurricanes are the best team in the ACC.

Granted, Miami has only played one difficult opponent to begin the year. But Miami still has wins against teams that are 4-1 this season.

The Hurricanes defeated Miami (OH) and Texas A&M, who have both only lost one game this season.

They’ve also averaged 43.8 points per game and have scored at least 38 points in each of their four games for the first time since 2022.

The Hurricanes currently have the 13th-best strength of schedule and lead the ACC in scoring offense, total offense, rushing offense, and rushing defense to start the season.

As the Hurricanes play more conference opponents, we’ll start figuring out who the best team in the ACC is. Miami could be the team to beat in the conference this season.

Below, we’ll touch on the Georgia Tech vs Miami odds for this interesting ACC game.

Georgia Tech vs Miami Odds

On Saturday, the Miami Hurricanes are 21-point favorites against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Meanwhile, the total is at 57.5.

This is one of the few conference NCAAF games that has a spread beyond 20 points this week.

The Yellow Jackets have played five games this season. In those five games, they’ve gone 2-3 straight up and 2-3 against the spread. They’ve been heavy favorites and haven’t covered, but as underdogs, they’ve covered in all three games.

Furthermore, Georgia Tech has watched its game go Over the total in four of its first five games this season. Dating back to last season, the Yellow Jackets have seen the Over hit in eight of their last ten games.

On the other hand, the Hurricanes are 4-0 straight up but 3-1 against the spread. The one game they didn’t cover was against Bethune Cookman, as 53.5-point favorites. They won that game by 41.

Finally, the Over and Under has split through four games. The Over has hit twice, while the Under has also hit twice to begin the season.

The Hurricanes have won the last two games against Georgia Tech. However, the Yellow Jackets have covered the spread in four of their previous five games against the Hurricanes.

Last season, Miami earned a 35-14 win on the road as a two-point favorite. Last year’s team wasn’t as good as this year’s.

How Elite Is Miami?

The Miami Hurricanes are led by Tyler Van Dyke, who has thrown 11 touchdowns and just one interception in four games. Van Dyke has already surpassed 1000 yards and has helped the offense to 519 yards per game.

Van Dyke has been super accurate this season and looks more confident than ever. It also helps when you’ve got terrific playmakers around you.

Henry Parrish Jr. has rushed for 7.9 yards a carry on 42 attempts this year. He’s led the team with 331 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

There’s also Xavier Restrepo, who has added 24 catches and 355 yards with two touchdowns.

SEC teams have had a hard time scoring against a team like Texas A&M. Miami didn’t flinch.

Now they’ll take on a Georgia Tech defense that just allowed Bowling Green to score 38 points. The defense continues to miss tackles and doesn’t really have a reliable pass rush.

There will be some changes on the defensive side of the ball. But how much can really be changed in one week? Not much.

Haynes King Can Keep The Yellow Jackets Alive

Georgia Tech brought in Haynes King to work the offense this season. King has thrown 15 touchdowns and only four interceptions in five games. It’s not like he’s had it easy. Georgia Tech played Louisville, Ole Miss, and Wake Forest to begin the year.

King has been excellent. The offense has earned 467.4 yards per game.

He’ll have his most challenging assignment on Saturday, facing Miami. The Hurricanes have been excellent against the run, holding teams to 48 yards per game on the ground. Therefore, King will have to throw the ball a lot. So far, he’s been protecting the football enough and continues to find the end zone.

We don’t think that changes.

After looking at the NCAAF scores and odds, we’re confident in the Over 57.5 for this matchup.
