Kansas Jayhawks 2023 Future Odds

Jayhawk 15-26 ATS Since 2019, 4 Straight Losing Seasons for Bettors

The final 2023 Kansas Jayhawks stats may not see much improvement over 2022, but we expect the Jayhawks to be on the cusp of back-to-back bowl games for the first time since 2008. Going through last season’s NCAAF odds remains an unreliable wager with a 5-5-2 ATS record (-48 units).

Since 2009, the Jayhawks have had just one winning season against the number (2018), costing bettors 3755 units. In that span, no team in College Football has been worse against the number.

Kansas Kissed National Ranking In 2022

For a program that hasn’t won a bowl game since 2008, their short-lived stop at #17 in the coaches poll and #19 in the AP poll was a massive win for Lance Leipold’s team. With Kansas projected to finish 9th by the Big 12 media poll, that success hasn’t translated into national respect Leipold and his staff is considered among the best in College Football making the future brighter than it’s been since the days of Mark Mangino when the school went to four NCAAF bowl games in six seasons.

For the program to take the next step, their College Football defensive rankings must improve after finishing 121st (451.7 yards allowed per game) last season. Kansas allowed 33.8 points per game (120th) making their bowl appearance, a 55-53 3 OT loss to Arkansas, a minor miracle. In their final four games, the Jayhawks failed to hold an opponent to less than 43 points.

Kansas will have seven starters back on defense and 10 for an offense that was 28th in the nation in points per game with 34.2. Kansas started the season 5-0 but managed just one win against #18 Oklahoma State (37-16) in the season’s final seven weeks.

The Jayhawks finished 56th in the final Sagarin College Football ranking. The health of junior quarterback, Jalon Daniels, will be the deciding factor in the success or failure of almost every 2023 Kansas Jayhawk statistic.

Daniels was hurt in their 38-31 week six loss to TCU, forcing the junior to miss four games. That started a 1-7 run that knocked them far outside the top 25. Let’s go through the Kansas schedule and see which future wager is worth a shot in 2023.

National Championship Odds: Not Even Fun Money Should be Wasted

We’re not going to break national news when we say the Kansas Jayhawks will not be winning the National Championship in 2023. At 30,000-1, even a small $10 wager would be burning money. Against teams playing less than .500 football, Kansas was just 1-3 ATS in 2022, their third losing season in four years.

That specific 2023 Kansas ATS statistic must change in order for the culture to be one of optimism in Lawrence. Six times last season, bettors were on Kansas, producing a 3-3-1 ATS mark. That was a major step forward considering since 2009, when the house has a higher percentage of wagers on the Jayhawks, bettors are just 8-24 ATS (-1651).

Conference Odds: Jayhawks Expected to Be Middle of Big 12 Pack

With an expected last-place finish in the Big 12 last season, Kansas opened +30,000 to win the Big 12 last season, so this year’s +4000 shows that the oddsmakers have confidence that the Kansas program is moving in the right direction.

The Jayhawks will open up their Big 12 schedule at Texas in week five. Two of their first three conference games will be on the road, but overall it seems balanced with two of their last three at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. Since 2019, Kansas is 15-26-3 ATS against Big 12 opponents.

Regular Season Wins: Big Glass Of Juice One Again

You don’t see it much, but the juice on last year’s season win total (2.5, o -150) was bigger than what most would expect. Fast forward to Kansas’ 2023 project win stat, and it appears the bookmakers are at it again after making the number 6.5 ( under -165).

We don’t think the Jayhawks are ready to jump to seven wins after struggling down the stretch in 2022. Their non-conference schedule includes Illinois and BYU at home in addition to a road date at Nevada. Leipold is making strides, but there are too many question marks to find seven wins in this schedule which is why we’re recommending an under wager. That does it for our look at the 2023 Kansas Jayhawks, we wish you the best this upcoming College Football season.
