Nebraska Cornhuskers 2023 Future Odds: National Championship, Conference, Regular Season Wins, and Player Props

Huskers Suffered Through Fourth Straight Losing ATS Season

2023 Nebraska Cornhuskers stats in review will likely show Matt Rhule’s better than the team that finished the 2022 season 5-6 ATS (-141 units). This will be Ruhle’s first season as the head coach of the Huskers after three seasons with the Carolina Panthers.

His previous college head coaching jobs were at Temple (2013-2016) and Baylor (2017-2019). Ruhle is a combined 47-43 as a college coach and 11-27 in the NFL. The Huskers are expected to be in the bottom half of the Big 10 in 2023.

Back to National Prominence Under Ruhle?

It will take more than one season to undo what was done under the previous head coach, Scott Frost, but there’s nowhere to go but up for the once-proud Cornhuskers. It’s been 26 years since their last national title, but the name Nebraska still carries plenty of weight. In what will be their third season in the Big 10, the Huskers are looking for their first winning NCAAF season in six years after a 4-8 2022 season that produced a 3-6 record in the Big 10.

Bettors are also patiently waiting for Nebraska to become a reliable wager again after adding to a 17-24-1 ATS record (-817 units) over the last four seasons. From a betting standpoint, the Huskers have never been an automatic wager because bookmakers have always thrown out sharp numbers. 2015-2017 was the only three seasons over the last 20 years, where the Huskers put together a winning ATS mark (21-15 ATS, +493 units).

That record was aided by an 8-4-1 ATS record in 2104. With Ruhle getting $9 million over the next eight seasons, Huskers fans expect a quick turnaround. Incoming Georgia Tech transfer, Jeff Sims, takes over an offense that was miserable through the air, especially in the red zone in 2022. 2023 Nebraska Cornhuskers Stats must improve on their touchdowns through the air if there is any chance at a bowl game this season.

Under Frost, the Huskers averaged just 13.4 passing touchdowns in five seasons, only Northwestern and Rutgers were worse in that span. Sims hopes to improve on the nation’s 92nd-ranked passing touchdown team. The former Yellow Jacket threw for 30 touchdowns in 25 games in Atlanta.

National Championship Odds: Huskers Still Stuck On Seven

The Nebraska Cornhusker history tells us that the Huskers should be in the national title picture on a consistent basis after winning five titles, but it’s been 26 years since their last title and it doesn’t appear that Nebraska will add to that end of the trophy case any time soon.

Most will be happy to open up the NCAA Football scores page this Fall to find the Huskers are competitive against the better teams in the land. Against teams .500 or better, Nebraska is 72-77 ATS (-887 units) and 46-55 ATS against teams playing .650 ball or better. That means they struggle against the big boys. There is always a sense of optimism in Lincoln making it hard to make pre-season College Football predictions but let’s do our best.

Conference Odds: Huskers Closer to Bottom Of Big 10 Standings

Last season, Nebraska was +1800 to win the Big 10, mostly because Scott Frost looked lost at times as he tried to turn around a poor culture that he was blamed for. You could hear it when opening their season against Northwestern.

This was a guy who was overwhelmed by the pressure to turn his alma mater around. The oddsmakers are more comfortable with Ruhle at the controls, but at +6000 to with the conference, no one is buying into the Husker mystique behind the counter this year. Until Nebraska’s offense can find balance, they’re a long way from a conference title, but a bowl is not out of the question.

Regular Season Wins: Huskers Will Be In Bowl Discussion

Most expect the 2023 Nebraska Cornhuskers Stats to improve over 2022, and many feel that will lead to the school’s first bowl appearance since 2016. If we go by the odds, the Huskers are predicted to finish 8th in the Big 10 and 5th (+1400) in the NCAAF Big 10 West standings.

If we go to the Huskers’ recent meetings with their 2023 opponents, Nebraska will struggle. Of their 12 opponents, the Huskers managed just four wins in their last meeting. However, their 7-4-2 ATS record against those same opponents indicates that Nebraska could turn things around quickly.

The oddsmakers have decided that four-win Nebraska teams will be around six wins (over -125) in 2023, and we agree. To open the season, we expected at least a split with games at Minnesota and Colorado, followed by two more against Northern Illinois and Louisiana Tech, That’s four wins in five games, not a bad start before getting Michigan at home.

Wins against Illinois and Michigan State will get Nebraska to six easily. With three games left, you can check the next three weeks of NCAAF scores knowing that Nraska will surely get one more win over Maryland, Wisconsin, or Iowa to cash an over ticket. The 2023 Nebraska Cornhuskers Stats will improve with Sims and Nebraska will appear in their 54th bowl game.
