2023 Miami Hurricanes Future Odds: National Championship, Conference, Regular Season Wins and Player Props

Miami Looks to Rebound After Being Blown Out in its Three Games Versus Ranked Teams in 2022

Can the Miami Offense Show Enough Improvement to Become an ACC Contender?

Mario Cristobal’s first season at the helm of his alma mater did not go as planned as Miami was outscored 82-26 in the last two games and was not bowl eligible. It will be worth watching the 2023 Miami Hurricane stats as Miami has the sixth-best odds to win the ACC title in the upcoming season.

Cristobal earned a reputation as a top-notch recruiter when he was at Oregon and according to the 247sports.com database, Miami’s group of incoming freshmen is the seventh best in the country and best among ACC programs so that could bode well for the future.

Let’s take a look at the prospects of Miami heading into the 2023 season.

Miami Hurricanes At a Glance

  • National championship odds: +15000
  • ACC odds: +2000
  • Regular Season Win Total: 7.5 (Over +110, Under -140)

Miami Has Some Work to Do to Become An ACC Contender in 2023

When it comes to the 2023 Miami Hurricanes stats, Miami was just ninth in the ACC in total offense and in yards per play, and 10th when it came to scoring touchdowns at the end of drives that reached the red zone so it is pretty easy to figure out where the biggest area of improvement needs to come.

Even more numbers to ponder are 42, 30, and 26 as those are the margins of defeat against ranked Florida State, Clemson, and Pittsburgh teams in 2022.

The good news is that offensive linemen Zion Nelson (first team), Javion Cohen (second team), and Matt Lee (third team) earned preseason All-ACC honors from Athlon so the offense should have a good line to build around.

Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke looks to bounce back after he had 10 touchdown passes and five interceptions in nine games a season ago after throwing for 25 touchdowns to go with only six interceptions in 10 games during the 2021 season. He is priced at +10000 in the odds to win the Heisman Trophy.

Miami is listed as having the sixth easiest schedule among teams from Power-5 conferences according to Pro Football Focus. There is a non-conference game against Texas A&M, but the other games out of ACC play come against Miami (Ohio), Bethune Cookman, and Temple. The 2023 season begins on September 1 when Miami (Ohio) comes to town.

October matchups at North Carolina and at home versus Clemson won’t be easy and then there is the Nov. 11 trip to Tallahassee to meet up with Florida State.

National Championship Odds: Some Work to Do

It has been 22 years since Miami won its last national title and it could be a while before that happens again.

Other than the Texas A&M matchup, the non-conference portion of the schedule is not going to impress those who pick the college football playoff field.

Cincinnati and Texas Christian have made more CFP appearances than Miami and that seemed hard to imagine based on the dominant run of the Miami program from 1983-2003.

Conference Odds: Expectations are Pretty Low

Clemson (+160), Florida State (+165), North Carolina (+700), Louisville (+1100), and North Carolina State (+1500) all are ahead of Miami in the odds to win the ACC title.

The good news or bad news depending on your perspective is that Miami plays all five of those teams so the Hurricanes can play its way in or out of ACC title contention.

Regular Season Wins: Can The Hurricanes Exceed The Expectations?

If Miami tops the other Miami, Temple, and Bethune Cookman, that leaves the Hurricanes needing to win five conference games to go over the expected win total of 7.5.

When it comes to the NCAA football schedules, Miami figures to be favored against Georgia Tech, Virginia, and Boston College so the Hurricanes need to take down at least two of the teams ahead of them in the ACC pecking order and that is a possibility.

Miami was fifth in the ACC Coastal Division in 2022 and more is expected when it comes down to the NCAA football standings in 2023.

To Make Playoffs: Not So Fast, My Friend

When the College Football Playoff field expands from four to 12 teams, perhaps Miami will be in the running. As long as it is at four, it seems highly unlikely.

The good news is that Cristobal is doing the work on the recruiting trail.

When it comes to the 2023 Miami Hurricanes stats, keep in mind that Miami also had the No. 7 class of incoming transfers. Unfortunately, rival Florida State is one of the teams ahead of them. Among the top 27 rated transfers affiliated with Miami, 15 are headed elsewhere so it is not all good news.
